Coon Rapids Bayard Vs Turkey Valley At Valley Stadium

Turkey Valley 38

Coon Rapids Bayard 28

The Crusaders let one slip away with a punt return for a touchdown called back and a pass that looked like they would score, getting called out-of-bounds as the receiver was streaking down the sidelines. Both teams scored early as the game was tied 12-12 at half, but a big 3rd quarter by the Trojans opened things up. Coon Rapids Bayard tried to rally in the 4th quarter but couldn’t get within one score, getting as close as 12 and 10 to end the game. The Crusaders finished with 305 yards offensively, showing a balanced attack with 158-yards passing and 147-yards on the ground. Cramping issues in the 3rd quarter and a pair of turnovers helped the Trojans take control of the game.

Coon Rapids Bayard struck quickly, scoring on their first possession. They drove from their own 15-yard line, scoring on a 14-yard pass from Wyatt Oswald to Cal Heydon. They led 6-0 until Turkey Valley slowly drove down the field on their first possession, picking up a huge 3rd and long early in the drive. They scored on a 1-yard plunge from Logan Busta, tying the game at 6 with 1:39 left in the 1st quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard turned it over on downs on their next possession but Tyler Mohr got the ball back for them, falling on a fumble, setting up a 15-yard pass from Oswald to Heydon for a touchdown. Coon Rapids Bayard led 12-6 with 9:08 left in the 1st half. That held until the 4:13 mark, when Logan Busta found Oliver Schmitt for a 11-yard touchdown, tying the game at 12. It stayed that way until half.

The Trojans pounded the ball inside most of the game, finding just enough success to keep the Crusaders defense on the field for a lot of plays. Both teams punted to open the 2nd half, but a short punt set up the Trojans at the Crusaders 25-yard line. Oliver Schmitt scored on a 2-yard run, putting the Trojans up 20-12. A Crusader fumble turned into a 12-yard touchdown run by Burke Busta, extending the Trojans lead to 26-12 with 3:19 left in the 3rd quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard turned it over on their next two possessions with Turkey Valley taking advantage of the second interception. Logan Busta extended the lead to 32-12 on an 8-yard run. Coon Rapids Bayard struck quickly with Wyatt Oswald finding Cal Heydon for a 53-yard touchdown. Coon Rapids Bayard trailed 32-20 with 8:19 left. Turkey Valley answered with a 9-play drive, scoring on an Oliver Schmitt 7-yard run. They led 38-20 with 2:46 left. Wyatt Oswald capped the scoring, running in from 8-yards out with 1:51 left. Turkey Valley recovered the onside kick, picked up a first down and ran out the clock.

Cal Heydon was impressive in the passing game, catching 6 passes for 144-yards and 3 touchdowns. He ran over 4 defenders on his first touchdown, caught the ball while tip-toeing the sidelines on his second catch and outrunning the defense down the middle on his third score. Wyatt Oswald passed for 158-yards and 3 touchdowns but threw 3 interceptions. He added 66-yards on the ground and 14.5 tackles.
