Carroll Merchants Remain Hot With Sweep of Sedalia on Friday

The Merchants out hit Sedalia 7-3, picking up a 4-0 win. Calvin McClendon was strong on the hill, allowing the bats to come alive as the game wore on. He allowed 3  hits and only walked 3, stranding 4 guys on base. Sedalia threatened in the 5th, getting a double and a walk but McClendon struck out the next two batters to get out of trouble. He finished with 7 strikeouts. Carroll broke through in the 3rd inning. Lane Spieker singled before stealing 2nd base. Michael Alt singled, moving Spieker to 3rd. Dillon Kuehl walked to load the bases and Bryce Yosko reached on an error, scoring a pair of runs. A Michael Alt 2-out single sparked a rally in the 5th. He scored on a double by Dillon Kuehl after stealing 2nd base. Carroll tacked on another run in the 6th when Chris Hege walked, moved to 2nd on a ground out, then scored on a double by Ethan Cole. Calvin McClendon got Sedalia in order in the 7th, ending the game on a flyout to right field.

Both teams scored a run in the 1st inning but the Merchants took charge early on their way to a series sweep. Kyle Berg grounded out in the 1st, scoring Blake Tigges, tying the game at 1. Doug Allen put the Merchants up for the first time in the 2nd, driving in Lane Spieker. That lead didn’t hold as Sedalia added a run top 3rd on a home run. The Merchants responded with a pair of runs in the 3rd as Noah Dutler singled with the bases loaded, scoring Cullen McBride. Doug Allen knocked in Justin Johnson with a ground out, putting Carroll up 4-2. Sedalia pulled within a run in the 4th but again the Merchants bats had the answer. Kyle Berg reached on an error with 1 out, advancing to 2nd and 3rd. Cullen McBride and Justin Johnson walked, loading the bases. Kasey Carter singled to score a run, then Noah Dutler doubled, driving in 2 more.

Carroll was held to 4 hits, leaving 11 on base. They left the bases loaded in the 4th and left 2 on base in the and 6th. Noah Dutler led the offensive attack with a pair of hits, including a double to go with 3 RBI, Cullen McBride and Justin Johnson both scored twice  and Doug Allen drove in a pair of runs.
