Coon Rapids Bayard At Audubon/ACGC Tournament

Alexis Obermeier had a strong game in the circle and the Wheelers got just enough offense to advance, holding off a 7th inning threat from Ogden. The Bulldogs put runners on 1st and 2nd base with 1-out in the bottom 7th and the 2 and 3 hitters coming up. Obermeier worked a fly ball to shallow right field, caught by Addie Hocker, then a popup on the infield caught by 2nd baseman Anna Larsen to end the game. The Wheelers had one hit in the 1st inning, but took advantage of walks to Mattie Nielsen and Jordan Porsch. They scored on a double by Kylee Hartl. Ogden answered with a pair of runs in the 1st, taking advantage of a hit-by-pitch and a fly ball to right-center field that was dropped when the outfielders collided allowing both runners to score on the play. Alexis Obermeier allowed a single in the 1st inning, 5th inning and 7th inning. She stranded 7-runners on base with 2 left on in the 5th and 7th innings. Audubon had 5-hits, scoring a run in the 3rd. Jordan Porsch reached on an error and scored on a single by Kali Irlmeier. The Wheelers threatened in the 5th, leaving 2-runners on base and the 6th when they left the bases loaded.

Kylee Hartl had a team high 2 RBI with a double and Kali Irlmeier added a single and a RBI. Anna Larsen, Michelle Brooks and Alexis Obermeier all had singles. Jordan Porsch scored a pair of runs. Alexis Obermeier went all 7 innings, earning the win with 3  hits and 0 earned runs with 10 strikeouts.

Coon Rapids Bayard put big innings together in the 4th and 5th inning, propelling them to a win in their first game of the tournament. The Crusaders added a strong performance in the circle with a really good defensive performance, nearly shutting out the Chargers. Hart allowed 5-hits and walked 1 while the defense made 1 error. Lacie Davis and Malia Clayburg both walked to start the 4th innings. Breeley Clayburg drove in Davis with a single and Malia Clayburg scored on a ground out by Aubrey Hofbauer. Kadey Olson knocked in Breeley Clayburg and the Crusaders were up 3-0. The Chargers answered with a double and a single back-to-back in the top 5th, pulling within 3-1. Coon Rapids Bayard took charge in the bottom 5th with Maddy Mason reaching on an error. Anna Hart singled and Lacie Davis singled, loading the bases. Malia Clayburg drove in a pair of runs and Breeley Clayburg picked up her second RBI of the game with a base hit and the lead sat at 6-1 after 5 innings. Anna Hart got the Chargers in order in the 6th, then gave up a leadoff double in the 7th but got the next three batters to end the game.

Breeley Clayburg had 3 hits, driving in a pair of runs. Malia Clayburg added a base hit and a pair of RBI. Lacie Davis singled and scored twice. Anna Hart earned the win, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts in 7 innings.

Coon Rapids Bayard Vs Missouri Valley- Semifinals

The Crusaders defense struggled in their semifinal matchup with Missouri Valley, which earned their 20th win of the season. Coon Rapids Bayard gave up 7 unearned runs, getting out hit 5 to 1. Missouri Valley scored 7-runs in the 1st inning, putting the game away with a 5-run 3rd inning. Malia Clayburg had the lone hit for the Crusaders.

Coon Rapids Bayard finished the tournament 1-1 with their 3rd game of the day getting rained out in the top 4th inning. They head to Ar-We-Va on 93.7 KKRL on Monday with a 4-12 record.

The offenses for both teams came out hot with both scoring a pair of runs in the 1st inning, as the teams combined for 11-runs through 3 innings. The Wheelers were playing as the visiting team for the second straight game. They loaded the bases with no outs and scored a pair of runs with Mattie Nielsen scoring on an error and Jordan Porsch scoring on a single to centerfield from Alexis Obermeier. The Rams responded with a pair of runs in the bottom 1st on 4 singles. Audubon quickly responded with a 3-run 2nd inning highlighted by a 2-run home run from Mattie Nielsen, driving in Anna Larsen who walked. Kali Irlmeier doubled and Kylee Hartl doubled to left field to score Irlmeier. They stretched the lead in the top 3rd with a pair of runs. Mattie Nielsen added her third RBI with a single up the middle, scoring Addie Hocker who walked. Jordan Porsch lined out to right field, scoring Anna Larsen from 3rd. Audubon lead 7-2 when the Rams scored a pair of runs in the bottom 3rd. The lead grew to 8-4 in the top 6th on a Anna Larsen single that scored Kylee Hartl. The Rams scored in the bottom 6th but the game was called due to time constraints.

Mattie Nielsen had a pair of hits, including a 2-run home run, finishing with 3 RBI with a pair of runs scored. Kali Irlmeier and Alexis Obermeier both had 2 hits with Irlmeier doubling and Obermeier driving in a run. Kylee Hartl doubled, driving in a run and scored a run and Anna Larsen scored twice. Alexis Obermeier picked up her second win of the day, going 6 innings with 10 hits, 4 earned runs and 9 strikeouts.

The Wheelers improved to 11-5, advancing into the championship game against Missouri Valley. The two teams were scheduled to play a conference game in Audubon on Monday and will count the game as their conference game as well as the tournament championship game.
