Carroll At Atlantic Tournament

Carroll cruised to a win scoring 9 times over the first three innings. The Tigers had 9 hits while holding Red Oak to 2 hits. The top part of the order had a great game with Parker Adams, Averi Burke and Makalei Kofron all having 2 hits. Kofron had their only extra base  hit, crushing a home run. She finished with 2 RBI and scored a run. Burke was just as strong in the circle, going 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run with 3 strikeouts. Olivia Rowedder scored twice as the Tigers had eight different players score a run. 

Carroll separated themselves from Red Oak with a 6-run 2nd inning, after getting a run in the bottom 1st. They added 2 more in the 3rd.

Carroll pounded two home runs, part of a 15-hit attack as they out scored Clarinda in a game that saw both teams in double figures in hits. Clarinda finished with 10-hits, scoring a pair of runs in the 2nd and 6th innings. The Tigers countered with 2-runs in the 4th, then built a 7-3 lead with a 3 spot in the 5th. 

Emma Kuhlmann and Amanda Wardell went deep for Carroll and Averi Burke finished 4-4 at the plate. Ava Gross had a pair of RBI and scored twice to lead the team. Carroll finished with 13 singles with Makalei Kofron, Ava Gross and Marin Overmohle all had 2 hits. Burke went 6 innings, getting up 10 hits with 5 earned runs and 4 strikeouts.

Carroll’s offense got better each game on Saturday, ending the tournament 3-0 with 13 hits and 3 home runs. Every batter had at least one hit for the Tigers who blew the game open in the 1st inning with 12-runs. Averi Burke and Gabby Olberding combined to allow 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 4 innings. Ava Gross and Kloee Jones were both perfect at the plate with Gross hitting a 3-run home run, finishing with 5 RBI and a pair of runs scored. Jones had a team high 3 hits, including a double with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Emma Kuhlmann and Parker Adams both had a home run with Adams having a pair of hits and 2 RBI while Kuhlmann added 2 RBI. Olivia Rowedder had 2 RBI and scored twice. 

The Tigers ended the tournament 7-6 and will host Boone on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

Kuemper out hit Gehlen Catholic 15 to 4 on their way to a semifinal round win at the CYO Tournament in Carroll on Saturday. The Knights had nine different players collect at least one hit with five players having multi hit games. Myli Schaefer had a team high 3 hits and took the win in the circle. She went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Melinda Schaefer had a pair of hits with 4 RBI and Ally Sommerfeld had 2 hits with 2 RBI and scored twice and Ellie Sibbel had a pair of hits. Allison Ostrander added 2 hits and scored a run with a pair of stolen bases. Ally Sommerfeld pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 hit.

Ellie Sibbel hit a 2-run home run as Kuemper rolled in the championship game. The Knights finished with 9 hits, allowing 6. Kaylie Diercksen and Ellie Sibbel had big games at the plate. Sibbel had 3 hits with a 2-run home run, 2 RBI and scored a run, Diercksen added 3 hits, a double, driving in 5 and scoring twice. Melinda Schaefer scored twice. Myli Schaefer went all 7 innings, allowing 6 hits with 1 earned run and 5 strikeouts. 

Ellie Sibbel and Kaylie Diercksen both were named to the All-Tournament team. 

The two wins improves Kuemper to 6-5. They host Harlan on Monday.

The Crusaders hit the ball well, but four errors led to 4 unearned runs, putting them in a hole they weren’t able to dig out of. Coon Rapids Bayard scored a pair of runs in the 1st inning, but gave up 6 in the bottom 1st and trailed 9-3 after 3 innings. Lacie Davis and Malia Clayburg both had a pair of hits pacing an offense that had 7 hits. Davis scored twice and Clayburg had an RBI. Davis took the loss, allowing 9 hits and 8 earned runs in 5 innings.

Coon Rapids Bayard had the lead twice against the Wildcats but the game slipped away late with West Central Valley grabbing the lead with 3-runs in the 4th inning. The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the 2nd inning and 2 more in the 3rd.  West Central Valley out hit the Crusaders 10-8, benefitting from 4 errors. 

Lacie Davis and Aubrey Hofbauer both had 2 hits with Davis having a double and a triple along with scoring a run. Malia Clayburg doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Lauren Cook doubled with an RBI. Anna Hart took the loss, going all 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. 

Lacie Davis and Malia Clayburg both were named All-Tournament. 

The pair of losses dropped Coon Rapids Bayard to 1-7. They host CAM Anita on Monday.

East Sac snapped a two game losing streak with a strong performance on Saturday. The Raiders scored 3 times in the 1st with 2 more in the 2nd inning, then put the game on ice with a 5-run 7th inning. East Sac pounded out 13-hits, allowing just 1 as Maci Gustavson was dominant in the circle. She went the distance, allowing 1 hit while striking out 12. Gustavson added a home run with a pair of RBI. Mary Bontrager set the tempo for the Raiders offense with 4 hits and scored 3 times. Anna McCollough had a strong day at the plate with 3 hits, scoring once and Emersyn Mack added 2 hits and 2 RBI while scoring 3 times. Gracie Snyder also had a pair of RBI. 

The win improves the Raiders to 3-2. They travel to Pocahontas Area on Monday.
