Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper and CRB Baseball 1-1 on Saturday

Baseball Results Saturday, June 3rd

Kuemper Hosts CYO Tournament

Kuemper pounded out 10 hits, scoring 14-runs, scoring 6 times in both the 1st and 4th innings. The Knights gave up a run in the top 1st before responding with 4 hits and 3 walks, helping them send 10 batters to the plate in the bottom 1st. Logan Sibenaller singled to start the rally. Benicio Lujano walked before Josh Langel singled. Ethan Loew reached on a fielder’s choice, driving in a pair of runs. Carter Putney tripled a couple batters later, scoring 2 and Kuemper led 6-1. Kuemper batted through the lineup again in the 4th inning with Logan Sibenaller leading off the inning with a walk. Trevor Rial walked after Josh Langel reached on an error. Cooper Pottebaum singled, scoring two and Max Irlmeier singled, driving in a run and the Knights had scored 6-runs to blow the game open. Sibenaller was hit-by-pitch to start the 5th, stole 2nd, took 3rd on a passed ball and scored on a single by Benicio Lujano to end the game. 

Evan Loew pitched 3 1⁄3 innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 earned runs. He combined with Tristian Janson and Max Schon to allow 2 hits, 3 earned runs and 3 strikeouts. Logan Sibenaller scored 3 times and Benicio Lujano, Cooper Pottebaum and Josh Langel all had 3 hits with Lujano and Langel doubling. Lujano scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Langel scored twice and Pottebaum had a pair of RBI and scored twice. Carter Putney tripled and drove in 2-runs. 

The Knights advanced to the championship game against Gehlen Catholic.

Championship Game

Kuemper fell in the championship game, getting out hit 10-5. The Knights tried to rally in the 7th, getting a pair of runners on base and scoring a run but the rally fell short as Gehlen Catholic induced three fly ball outs. Gehlen Catholic struck in the 2nd innings, picking up a pair of runs on 3 hits. They added a run in the 3rd innings, though the Knights got out of trouble with a 6-4-3 double play. A pair of Knights errors led to an insurance run for Gehlen Catholic in the bottom 5th. Trevor Rial started the Kuemper rally in the 7th with a single, he scored a few batters later on a single by Max Irlmeier. A fly ball to center field ended the game. 

Trevor Rial led the Knights with 2 hits and scored their run. Benicio Lujano and Max Irlmeier also singled with Irlmeier driving in a run. Mason Knerl went 4 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs.

The Crusaders only had two hits but made them count in a hard fought win. Jacob Estrada doubled in the 2nd inning and Caden Oswald came in as a courtesy runner. He scored to put the Crusaders ahead on a squeeze bunt by Tyler Mohr. Kolby Culbertson and Lance Clayburg combined to shut out Kee with Culbertson going 5 innings for the win and Clayburg getting the final 2 innings for the save. They combined to allow 2 hits with 13 strikeouts and only walked 1. Wyatt Oswald had Coon Rapids Bayard’s other hit with a single.

Coon Rapids Bayard had a chance, but saw the game slip away late after regaining the lead. They led 3-1 going into the bottom 3rd but gave up 3-runs and trailed 4-3. Pleasantville loaded the bases in the 3rd with a walk and a single after an error to open the inning. An infield single, scored their first run, then a ground ball back to the pitcher. Coon Rapids Bayard got the force out at home, but the throw to first made contact with the runner, going into right field, allowing 2-runs to score. The Crusaders battled back in the top 7th with a walk, a single and a sac fly but Cal Heydon. The Crusaders had a chance to take the lead but weren’t able to pick up another hit. Pleasantville loaded the bases in the bottom 7th on an infield single, a bunt  single and an intentional walk. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to get a force out at home but Pleasantville executed a squeeze play to score the game winner. 

The Crusaders are 8-1 on the season after going 1-1 on Saturday. They host CAM Anita on Monday.
