Webster City      8

The Kuemper Knights had their backs against the wall in the bottom of the seventh, but their prayers were answered with a walkoff win against Webster City.

Webster City got their night started early with one run scored in the top of the first inning leading 1-0. They’d keep their momentum into the middle parts of the contest, getting three across the plate in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth and sixth. Kuemper challenged those runs with scores of their own, scoring two in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth to trail 8-7. The Knights struggled a bit with pitching in this game, allowing 10 hits total on the hill and five earned runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Knights needed almost everything to go their way in order to pull out the win. Aaron McDermott drew the lead off walk followed by Logan Sibenaller getting a ground ball to third. The third baseman threw down to second but pulled the second baseman off the bag and kept Sibenaller safe. Trevor Rial’s only hit of the game came at a crucial moment to tie the game at 8-8 when McDermott scored. Sibenaller was out at third when he tried to advance on a pitch in the dirt. Koby Lampman was the savior in the end with a huge one out single to bring in Lampman for the walk off victory 9-8.

Lampman ended up going 2-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, Sibanaller went 1-4 with a run scored and Rial went 1-1 with two runs scored and two RBI. The Knights extend their early winning streak to 3-0. They are back in action on Tuesday, May 23rd when they travel to take on Treynor.
