The Merchants pulled ahead of the Peak for 3rd place in the North Division of the Mink League with a dominating win at Rippey on Saturday. Carroll improved to 14-12 on the season, thanks to a quick start. They finished with 18 hits, allowing them to score 15 runs. Carroll was hot early, scoring 3-runs in the 1st inning, 4 more in the 2nd inning and 2 in the 3rd inning to lead 9-0 after 3. Merchant pitching held Des Moines to 8 hits and didn’t allow a run until the 7th inning. The Merchants added 3-runs in the 4th and 2 more in the top 7th to lead 14-0 until Des Moines scored 7-runs in the 7th inning.
Andrew Schroeder led the offensive attack with 4 hits, scoring 3 times. Michael Alt added 3 hits along with scoring 4 times and driving in a pair of runs. Jordan Matthewson continues to hit the ball well, doubling twice and driving in 5-runs. Brett Hokeness added a pair of hits, one a double and scored twice. Noah Buss had 3 RBI and Kaleb Freeman scored twice. Seth Christiansen went 4 innings, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 4.
The Merchants host Des Moines on Monday at 4:05 for a doubleheader with the first game being broadcast on KIKD 106.7.
