Harlan at Kuemper

Harlan         16

Kuemper      5

The Kuemper Knights kept a solid lead heading into the fourth inning, but the Harlan Cyclones were able to get their bats alive late to bring home the win.

Kuemper’s Logan Sibenaller hit a short grounder to the pitcher but was able to reach first off an error from Harlan. He was later brought home off a sac hit from Kolby Lampman to give Kuemper the 1-0 lead. Harlan was able to get batters on bases, but Kuemper was able to stop any opportunities of them scoring. The Cyclones had runners at second and third in the first inning, but two strikeouts from Logan Sibenaller ended the inning, and with runners at first and second, Harlan was again denied thanks to two Ks from Sibenaller. In the third inning, Harlan got another chance to score with a runner at second, but a 4-3 putout ended the inning before they got a chance to score. Kuemper, on the other hand, brought Sibenaller and Carter Putney home to extend their lead. Both runners got home off passed balls and they almost got a third home, but a flyout to the second baseman ended the inning, allowing Kuemper to lead 3-0.

Harlan’s bats came alive from the fourth to the sixth inning where they were able to put up 16 runs combined, with eight of those runs being earned. Kuemper got Putney and Kolby Lampman home in the fifth and sixth innings respectively, but were unable to match the 16 runs from Harlan, eventually losing 16-5. The loss dropped Kuemper to 11-10 overall on the season and 4-7 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. Audubon at Underwood

Underwood     5

Audubon          2

A big matchup in the Western Iowa Conference pitted the Audubon Wheelers, who were on a four game winning streak, against one of the top teams in the conference, Underwood. Both teams had a lot at stake with Audubon looking to keep improving their standing in the conference.

Underwood was first on the board after both teams were unable to produce runs in the first or second innings with two runs. Audubon was able to respond by tying the game in the top of the fourth. Gavin Smith reached base off a walk and was later scored when Gavin Larsen hit a deep ball for a triple. Cooper Nielsen was able to get an easy RBI single to score Larsen to tie up the game at 2-2. After a scoreless fourth inning from the Eagles, Underwood was able to recapture the lead and keep it for good with three runs scored in the fifth inning. Audubon Head Coach Matt Wilder gives credit to Underwood for being a good team, but felt his guys were solid defensively and had some good pitching from Braden Wessel and Larsen. After two more scoreless innings from both teams, the Eagles stood victorious by a score of 5-2.

The loss dropped Audubon to 9-7 overall on the season and 7-5 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wheelers went 3-1 overall on the week with wins over Riverside, Treynor, and AHSTW. They return next week on Monday, June 20th with a conference road game against Missouri Valley.
