The Carroll Tigers had a tough time against the Woodward Granger Hawks Friday evening, but they were able to score late. Woodward Granger was first on the board as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. After a scoreless second inning from both teams, the Hawks kept the pressure on with two runs scored in the third inning and three more in the fourth, leading 7-0 after four innings of play. After another two runs scored by Woodward Granger in the sixth, Carroll was able to get some runners home. Ethan Loew had an RBI single while Ryan North scored off an error. Pitching the most for the Tigers was Loew who had three and a third innings pitched of work, amounting to allowing five hits, five earned runs, four walks, and four strikeouts. Carroll in the seventh inning had the bases loaded, but they were unable to get any of those runners home, leading Woodward Granger to a 9-2 win over the Tigers.
Carroll returns to Merchants Park on Wednesday, June 1st when they take on Bondurant Farrar.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Boyer Valley

Following their close loss to Kuemper the day prior, the Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders got back to their winning ways with a dominant win over Boyer Valley Friday night. Both teams kept each other in check as none scored any runs in the first two innings. The Crusaders finally got on the board in the top of the third with a run to lead it 1-0. Their strong offensive game got going in the top of the fourth when they were able to get four runners home to extend their lead to 5-0. Cal Heydon and Easton Hays both batted five times and both went 2-5, with Heydon being credited with three RBIs and Hays crushing a double with two runs scored.
The Crusaders kept Boyer Valley without any runs in the fifth while their offense too was stopped from scoring until the sixth inning. Coon Rapids Bayard would put up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and end the game with a 10 run lead with three final runs in the top of the seventh. A big reason for the lack of Boyer Valley runs was thanks to Kolby Culbertson, who put up six innings of work and had only three hits while putting up nine strikeouts. Jacob Estrada also got his first home run of the season in this game to add to the strong game for the Crusaders. After the dust settled, it was the Crusaders victorious after seven innings with a score of 10-0.
The Crusaders improve to 3-1 overall on the season. After the Memorial Day break, they take on Ar-We-Va on the road on Tuesday, May 31st.

Glidden Ralston at Ar-We-Va

Glidden Ralston rattled off four runs in the top of the sixth inning as they escaped with the win over Ar-We-Va Friday night. In the beginning, Ar-We-Va looked to be the favorite to win it, up 3-0 going into the fourth inning with a run in the bottom of the first inning and two in the bottom of the third. Glidden Ralston was able to get a batter home in the top of the fourth, but Ar-We-Va responded with another run scored in the bottom of the fifth.
John Whitver was the one to get things moving for the Wildcats in the top of the sixth. He singled hard into left field and got Ethan Olberding home for an RBI single. Whitver was later brought home thanks to Jonathan Burgmeier doubling to right center field for an RBI. Waylon Hein, who was hit by a pitch, was able to get home off a wild pitch from the Rockets, and finally Burgmeier was brought home by Mark Lensch who singled to left field, giving the Wildcats the lead at 5-4. The Rockets were unable to respond in either the bottom of the sixth or seventh innings, giving the Wildcats the win.
For the Rockets, Will Ragaller went 2-4 with a run scored, along with a great night on the mound with 17 strikeouts on five and two thirds innings of work, only allowing one earned run and one hit. Timothy Dose had the best batting night, going 3-4 with two runs scored. John Whitver spent the majority of the time on the mound for the Wildcats, and in five innings he allowed eight hits, four earned runs, and recorded three strikeouts.
Glidden Ralston records their first win of the season while Ar-We-Va falls to 0-2 on the season. Coming up next week for both teams, Ar-We-Va will play host to Coon Rapids Bayard on Tuesday, May 31st while Glidden Ralston takes on West Harrison on Tuesday as well at Glidden.

The East Sac Raiders suffered their first loss of the season as they opened up the 2022 season with a home contest against Manson NW Webster. The Cougars opened up the game with a big offensive push in the top of the first inning with four runs scored. East Sac’s efforts in the bottom of the first inning got them a run on the board to cut down the Cougar lead to 4-1. Manson NW Webster continued to score in the second and third innings, getting four more runs and extending their lead to 8-1. East Sac put four guys on the mound with Weston Drost and Karter Ludwig both pitching two full innings. They combined to record six strikeouts and only seven hits.
Manson NW Webster got their momentum back after a scoreless fourth inning with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth. East Sac in the bottom of the sixth got one more run in before the Cougars claimed victory with a score of 13-2. Preston Mauer was credited with two RBIs while Weston Drost was brought home on both those RBIs. The Raiders start off the 2022 season with a record of 0-1.
They return to action on Wednesday, June 1st with a game against Emmetsburg at East Sac Elementary.

The Audubon Wheelers went back down to .500 on the season as they had two solid offensive innings against Treynor, but it wasn’t enough for the win Friday night. The 2-0 Cardinals got their offense off to a solid enough start in the bottom of the second inning with three runs scored, taking a 3-0 lead. Audubon was able to have a good response in the top of the third inning with two runs of their own, cutting down the Treynor lead to 3-2. The Cardinals responded back with a run of their own to increase their lead to 4-2 after three innings of play.
Only four Wheelers were able to get their bats going in this game, those benign Braden Wessel, who went 1-2 with a run scored and was hit by pitches twice, Evan Alt, who went 1-3 and had two runs scored, and Gavin Larsen and Jay Remsburg, who both went 1-4 with RBIs. Audubon went back-to-back innings with runs scored as they got another run on the board in the top of the fourth inning, cutting down the Treynor lead once again to 4-3. The Cardinals started to inch away from the Wheelers as they got two runners home in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the bottom of the fifth. It was all defense in the last two innings as neither team got runs on the board in the sixth or seventh innings. Treynor ended up walking away with an 8-3 win over Audubon.
The Wheelers are now 2-2 overall on the season. They return to the ballpark on Tuesday, May 31st when they take on Underwood at home.

IKM-Manning were keeping up with Tri-Center going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but too many walked batters is what led to the Trojans taking a win away from the Wolves Friday night. IKM-Manning got their offense going with a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Tri-Center quickly took over the game in the bottom of the first and second innings. The Trojans quickly put up seven runs in the bottom of the first innings, and put one up in the bottom of the second to lead 8-1 after two innings. The Wolves were able to snap out of a scoreless inning with a solid offensive response in the top of the fourth. They were able to get three runs on the board and cut the Trojan lead in half at 8-4. Cooper Perdew and Reed Hinners both had an RBI each while Brody Blom, Treyton Barry, and Ross Kusel all had runs scored for the Wolves.
Tri-Center’s response was putting up five runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning, and one omre in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win 14-4. The Wolves fall to 1-2 overall on the season. They will return to action on Tuesday, May 31st when they host Missouri Valley.

The South Central Calhoun Titans suffered their first loss of the season as they took on Pocahontas Area Friday. The Indians in the bottom of the first brought their A-game against the Titans as they put up nine runs in that half inning alone. They followed that up with four runs in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the third. Andrew Anderson for South Central Calhoun had the lone hit for the Titans and went one-for-two in this game. Kaden Dorman and Charlie Nattress were on the hill for the Titans and they had four strikeouts combined between the two. The Indians ended the game in three innings with a final score of 16-0.
The Titans fall to 1-1 overall on the season. They return next week on Wednesday, June 1st when they play host to GTRA.
