Boys Tennis Results for Tuesday, May 3rd
Kuemper Boys at Hawkeye 10 Conference – Singles
The Kuemper Knights wrapped up their matches at the Hawkeye 10 Conference by playing their singles matches on Tuesday. Sam Janssen and Jake Hausman were selected to play in their respective brackets. Hausman competed in the singles #2 bracket and went up against Brett Erickson of Red Oak in the opening round, where Hausman was dropped into the consolation bracket with an 8-1 loss. In the consolation bracket, Hausman matched up with Brody Taylor of Glenwood and ultimately his day concluded with an 8-3 loss.
Sam Janssen’s day started out a little rocky but ended very well. He started in the second round with a loss to Nathan Brown of Clarinda, losing 8-0. He then started to carve out a solid day in the consolation bracket with a win over Edgar Mena of Harlan by a score of 8-0. Against Max DeVries of Red Oak, Janssen only dropped one set en route to an 8-1 win. In the fifth place match, Janssen dominated and ended his day by defeating Christian Jensen of Lewis Central 8-0.
The Knights as a team finished up the tournament with 10 team points and finished eighth overall. Kuemper continues their week of competition when they travel to take on Denison-Schleswig on Thursday, May 5th.

Audubon at Southwest Valley

The Audubon Wheelers won some good sets against Southwest Valley and brought one of their doubles matches to a tiebreaker Tuesday. The Wheelers ended up winning 11 sets in singles and 13 sets in doubles. Issac Jackson had a close match against Parker Boswell, but was unable to pull away the win, losing by a score of 8-4. Jake Lauritsen was able to win three sets in his singles match, but ultimately lost by a score of 8-3. Aidan Griffith and Lauritsen in doubles took the duo of Logan Westlake and Matthew Means to a tiebreaker and played well throughout. Despite the close score, the duo from Southwest Valley pulled out the 10-8 point win in the tiebreaker to win 9-8.
The Wheelers are back on the courts on Thursday, May 5th when they travel to take on Clarinda.
