Evan Adams of Kuemper at Drake Relays
Evan Adams of Kuemper had the unique opportunity to compete against Iowa’s best discus throwers as he was at the 2022 Drake Relays Thursday. Along with breaking a 21-year-old record at Kuemper for discus with a new record of 157-01, Adams also qualified for the Drake Relays at 19th place. At Drake, Adams had scratched his first attempt and threw a 125-10 in his second attempt. His third and final attempt ended up being scratched as well, giving Adams 24th place overall.

Carroll at Storm Lake
The Carroll Tigers was zooming Thursday as they traveled to Storm Lake and competed very well. The Tigers took home a second-place finish as a team with 90 team points. Humboldt was ahead of the competition and won the meet with 140.75 points. Despite the windier conditions, the Tigers brought home four first place finishes and two second place finishes.
Zach Dirkx was part of two top-three relay finishes and won an individual event. He was able to claim victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.46 and in the sprint medley relay. Dirkx, along with Reece Ziegman, Jack White, and Remy Richardson, won the event in a time of 1:40.37. Those same runners were part of the 4X100 relay where they took home a second-place finish in a time of 45.51. Ryan North was great in the distance events, winning the 3200 run in a time of 11:10.14 and getting second in the 1600 in a time of 5:06.32.
The Tigers are back in action on Monday, May 2nd when they travel to Atlantic. Full results can be found below.

Audubon, Coon Rapids Bayard, Paton Churdan, and IKM-Manning at ACGC
Audubon, Coon Rapids Bayard, Paton Churdan, and IKM-Manning all traveled to ACGC for the Gonzales/Parrish Invite at ACGC Thursday. Among our area teams, IKM-Manning finished the best in the team standings in second place with 147.50 points. Coon Rapids Bayard was right behind the Wolves in third place with 100 points, followed by Audubon in fourth place with 94 points, and finally Paton Churdan in seventh place with five points.
For IKM-Manning, Caden Keller was once again impressive in the distance events, winning the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:27.36 and getting second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:51.75. Abe Polzien was the other individual event to grab a second-place finish as he did so in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.31. Four IKM-Manning relay teams were able to place in the top two. The 4X400 team, composed of Jaxon Doyel, Hunter Smith, Justin Segebart, and Ross Kusel, won the event with a time of 3:42.70, and the 4X800 relay team, composed of Smith, Reed Hinners, Lane Sams, and Doyel, won with a time of 8:48.39. Treyton Barry, Segebart, Lane Sams, and Hinners got second place in the distance medley relay in a time of 4:04.60. Finally, the 4X200 relay team, composed of Jase Lueth, Kusel, Segebart, and Doyel finished in second place with a time of 1:38.38.
Coon Rapids Bayard came away with five first place finishes and two second place finishes. Kolby Culbertson claimed victory in the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.47. He also helped the sprint medley relay team to a win. Along with Gabe Obert, Tanner Oswald, and Omarion Floyd, the sprint medley team won with a time of 1:38.70. Easton Hays was able to win the long jump event with a best jump of 20-00.00. Hays was also part of the 4X200 team, along with Obert, Raiden Doty, and Floyd, that won the event with a time of 1:33.92. Lance Clayburg was also victorious in his individual event, winning the discus with a best throw of 144-04. He also aided his speediness to the shuttle hurdle relay team. Along with Lucas Obert, Parker Hays, and Oswald, the shuttle hurdle team got second place with a time of 1:10.49. Finally, the 4X100 relay team, composed of Hays, Doty, Oswald, and Gabe Obert, were able to finish in second place with a time of 44.89.
Audubon’s athletes had some good finishes at this meet as well, with three first place finishes and one second place finish. Gavin Smith came away with a first-place finish in the 400 hurdles event in a time of 57.93. He also found success with Logan Schmidt, Carter Andreasen, and Brandon Jensen in the shuttle hurdle event. That team won the event with a time of 1:04.31. Smith, Andreasen, Jensen, and Aaron Olsen teamed up to grab a second-place finish in the sprint medley relay in a time of 1:39.68. Zeke Konkler was the final Wheeler to grab a first-place finish, that was in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:11.95.
Paton Churdan came away with three top eight finishes at ACGC. Riley Cullum finished eighth overall in the discus event with a best throw of 82-05. Cullum helped the 4X100 team, along with Justin Stream, Shaydon Thurman, and James Currier, to a seventh-place finish in a time of 51.13. Stream, Thurman, Currier, and Bryce Baker gave the Rockets an eighth-place finish in the sprint medley relay with a time of 2:00.05.
Up next for all four teams, Paton Churdan is at South Central Calhoun on Friday, April 29th, Coon Rapids Bayard is at Boyer Valley on Monday, May 2nd, Audubon is at the Western Iowa Conference Meet at AHSTW on Tuesday, May 3rd, and IKM-Manning is at South Central Calhoun on Thursday, May 5th.
