The Carroll Tigers got off to a better start in week three than last week against Gilbert. Carroll only managed one touchdown Friday against Denison-Schleswig. Carroll came out on offense following the turnover, and two plays later, Cooper Ludwig ran the ball in for a two-yard touchdown as Carroll took a 7-0 lead. On Denison-Schleswig’s second possession of the game on the first play, QB Luke Wiebers found a wide-open receiver for a 63-yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked, and Carroll took a 7-6 lead to the second quarter.
As soon as the second quarter started, it was all Denison-Schleswig as they scored on another touchdown pass from Wiebers and hit a last-second field goal to take a 16-7 lead going into the locker room. Denison-Schleswig knew the Tigers wanted to run the football and did an excellent job up front, stopping the Carroll rushing attack. In the third and fourth quarter, Carroll had some more blown coverage in the secondary that led to big touchdowns for Denison-Schleswig as they would go on to beat Carroll 31-7.
Cooper Ludwig led the Tigers in the rushing department, recording 13 carries for 46 yards and the lone Carroll touchdown. Carter Essick was 9/22 for 134 yards and threw two interceptions. Essick also picked up 37 yards on the ground on 15 carries. Defensively, Carroll forced two Denison-Schleswig turnovers as Maddux White recorded an interception and Justin Riesberg had a fumble recovery.
