Kuemper recovered from a slow start offensively, exploding for 27-points in the 2nd half and rolling to an undefeated district season and their 7th win overall. The Knights moved the ball in the 1st half, scoring once on three possessions as both defenses bent but didn’t break often in the 1st half. The Knights had three possessions, lasting 9, 16 and 8-plays, scoring one touchdown. The Jaguars also moved the ball, running 11-plays on their opening drive, 10 on their second possession, which ended with a missed 21-yard field goal and five on their 3rd possession, ending with a Griffin Glynn interception deep in Kuemper territory. The Knights scored on their longest drive of the half, set up on the missed field goal by SE Valley. They marched 80-yards on 16-plays with Brock Badding sneaking in from a yard out. The touchdown with 5:38 left in the half put Kuemper up 7-0. They had a chance to add to the lead late in the half. Griffin Glynn returned an interception to midfield and Kuemper drove into the red zone but the Knights turned it over on downs.
The game was blown wide open early in the 2nd half. Kuemper took the opening drive and scored when Brock Badding found Carson Kanne on a slant for a 29-yard touchdown. Kuemper was up 14-0 with 10:18 to go in the 3rd quarter. They attempted an onside kick and the ball almost stopped short but spun enough times to go just past 10-yards. SE Valley didn’t try and jump on the ball, hoping it would stop short of 10-yards. The Knights recovered the ball and scored on a 5-yard pass from Brock Badding to Tate Bieret with 8:19 left in the 3rd quarter. Kuemper led 21-0. The Jaguars showed a lot of fight, getting a big return on the kickoff and driving 53-yards on 11-plays. Brady Hanson scored on a 5-yard run, cutting the lead to 21-6. Brock Badding had his 3rd touchdown pass of the half, finding Carson Kanne for a 2-yard score and Kuemper pushed the lead to 28-6. Austin Heinrichs intercepted the first play of the Jaguars next drive and Kuemper scored on a 9-yard pass from Brock Badding to Tregan Beiter. The Knights were up 34-6 with 10:46 remaining. SE Valley added a touchdown on a 10-yard pass with 7:24 left but Kuemper held onto the ball for the final 7:21 of the game, running the clock out to improve to 7-1.
Jarin Hoffman ran for 20-yards on 31-carries. Carson Kanne caught 10 passes for 108-yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brock Badding passed for 159-yards and 4 touchdowns. Easton Gifford returned a kick 64-yards and Tate Bieret led the defense with 7.5 tackles.
The win pushes Kuemper to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the district. They host Chariton on KCIM on Friday in the opening round of the playoffs.
