The Merchants dropped a tough one on Sunday at home, allowing 2-runs in the 9th inning to send it to extra innings, then giving up 4-runs in the 11th to lose 7-4. Cullen McBride had a nice outing on the hill, going 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 6. Carroll held a 2-1 lead when he left the game, extending it to 3-1 with a run in the 7th inning. St Joe’s took an early lead, scoring in the 1st inning but Carroll answered with single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Jordan Brandenburg got the Merchants on the board with a solo home run in the 3rd. That evened the game at 1 after St Joe’s scored in the 1st on a double, followed by a single. Sammy Harris doubled in the 3rd with 2-outs but the Merchants stranded him at 2nd base. Carroll took their first lead of the game in the 4th inning when Dylan Shepherd walked and stole 2nd. He moved to 3rd on a ground out by Cullen McBride, then scored on a single by Aiden Cizek. Cizek scored in the 7th, after singling, he eventually stole 3rd base and scored on a wild pitch. The Merchants held the lead until the 9th when St Joe’s scored twice on a 2-run home run. Billy Robertson singled to leadoff the bottom of the 9th for Carroll but the Merchants didn’t score, sending the game to extra innings. In the 11th inning, the Mustangs scored 4-runs on 4 hits with the help of a Merchants error and left 2 on base to take a 7-3 lead. Dylan Shepherd doubled home Sammy Harris, who started the inning on 2nd base. Carroll scored with 2-outs and a fly ball to right field ended the game on the next batter.

The Merchants are 1-5 on the season and will host Nevada for a doubleheader on Monday.
