Boys Tennis Results For Wednesday, May 8th

Kuemper and Audubon at Denison-Schleswig 

 

The Audubon Wheelers had a good showing in singles play Wednesday, while Kuemper advanced one singles player to the state tennis tournament. Mason Reicks of Kuemper received the number one seed in singles play and proved it while finishing in second. Reicks was tested in the first round against Isaac Jackson of Audubon. Jackson won the first set 7-6 to jump up 1-0. Reicks battled back, winning the second set 6-3. Reicks won 10-1 in a tie-breaker match to advance in the tournament. Reicks went a combined 24-4 in the next two games to advance to the championship match. Reicks would go on to lose in the championship match 2-1 (6-3, 0-6, 5-10). Mason will advance to the state tournament in singles play with the second-place finish.

Also, in singles play, Hans Kraus of Kuemper finished in fourth. Kraus won his opening round 2-0 (6-1, 6-3) over Owen Galvin of Denison-Schleswig. In the second round, Kraus picked up another 2-0 victory. In the semifinals, Hans Kraus lost 2-0 (2-6, 3-6). He would go on to finish fourth place at the district meet. For Audubon, Carson Matthews won his opening-round matchup 2-0 (6-0, 6-1). In his second-round matchup, Matthews lost to three-seed Hans Kraus of Kuemper 2-0 (1-6, 0-6).

In doubles, both Audubon teams lost in the first round. Sawyer Toft and Kayden Otten lost 2-6 and 0-6. The Wheelers Lincoln Sorter and Zach Schmidt also lost in the first round, 2-0 (0-6, 0-6). For Kuemper, Max Reincke and Carter Running won their opening round match 2-0 (6-1, 6-0). They ran into a very good North Polk team in the second round, losing 1-6 and 0-6. Josh Langel and Jake Hausman of Kuemper received the third seed in doubles. Langel and Hausman comfortably won their opening round match 2-0 (6-0, 6-0). They advanced to the semifinal, winning 2-0 (6-0, 6-0). Langel and Hausman battled hard in the semifinal match but fell 2-1 (4-6, 6-4, 8-10). Langel and Hausman would go on to finish third in the district tournament.
