A slow start against the second ranked team in the state put the Tigers in a hole they wouldn’t be able to dig out of in a loss during their home tournament on Saturday. Heelan struck in the first 3:00 of the game, taking a 1-0 lead. They added their second goal with 27:00 left in the half. The Crusaders pushed the lead to 3-0 moments later before adding a goal with 18:44 left in the half. The lead grew to 5-0 at half.
Carroll settled in defensively in the 2nd half, holding Heelan scoreless until there was 13:10 left in the half. The Tigers trailed 6-0 when Elias Villanueva found the back of the net with 10:59 left to get Carroll on the board.
The Tigers got additional shots from Chase Ragaller (two) and Kieran Polking (one). Tanner Heithoff finished the day with 9 saves.
The loss drops Carroll to 3-9. They host North Polk on Tuesday.
