Carroll and Kuemper At Larry Clark Invite At Carroll National Golf Course

Kuemper rolled to a championship at the Larry Clark Invite on Saturday on a windy, wet and chilly Saturday morning and early afternoon. The Knights had five players finish in the top 8, helping them win the title by 23 strokes over Atlantic, which shot a 321 to the Knights 298. Carroll High had a strong day with their top four scores in the 80’s, finishing 7th with a 339. Medalist honors came down to a one hole playoff between Maverick Schwabe of Kuemper and Axton Miller of OABCIG. They played hole one with Schwabe hitting a drive over the trees and a few feet away from the green. Miller went straight down the fairway, leaving himself a straight shot at the green from the top of the hill. Miller second shot was on the green. Schwabe was able to get some relief as his ball, on the fairway was near a large puddle of water from the Saturday morning storm. His chip went over the green and into the trees on the west side of the green. Schwabe was able to chip onto the green but missed a putt that lipped out, tapping it in for a 5. Miller had a long first putt for his 3rd shot, and ran it above the hole. He would knock in the putt for par, giving him Medalist honors. Miller and Schwabe both shot 70 on the day.

Maverick Schwabe was Runner-Up Medalist for Kuemper with his 70, followed by Braxton Vonnahme had a 74, finishing 4th and Carter Putney gave the Knights their third player in the top 5, shooting a 76, for 5th place. Kayden Schon added a 78 for Kuemper, taking 7th place. Keith Thompson of Hamburg took 3rd with a 73 as their only golfer.

Wyatt Ragaller led the Tigers with an 81, taking 16th place. Wade Ragaller was right behind him with an 82, finishing 21st place. Garrett Blunk and Moyer Olberding both shot 88 for the Tigers finishing 38th and 41st respectively.

The Knights are at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Meet on Monday in Clarinda while the Tigers head to Ballard for the Raccoon River Conference Meet.
