Lewis Central At Kuemper Catholic
Kuemper Catholic 6
Lewis Central 3
Kuemper earned a win in their season opener, not only having to battle a strong Lewis Central team but also having to deal with several stops in play due to rain showers. The match was stopped three times during singles play, but each time the sun came out and helped dry the courts enough to play on. Kuemper did a nice job staying focused with Sophia Tidgren and Kaylie Simons earning tight win after the third stoppage. Kuemper took a 4-2 lead in singles winning 38 games and losing 36 games. Julia Craig was dominant in her match, cruising to a 8-1 win. Charlotte Schwabe and Sophia Tidgren both won 8-6 with Tidgren battling back down late in the match. Kaylie Simons, playing in the number one singles match, took an early lead but trailed 7-6 before winning the final three games to earn an impressive 9-7 win.
The Knights needed at least one win in doubles to clinch the team victory. The did one better than that, getting an 8-3 win from Brooke Rohe and Sophia Tidgren and a 8-5 win with Kaylie Simons and Charlotte Schwabe. The Knights went 22-16 in doubles games.
Kuemper starts the season 1-0 and will head to Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Friday.
