Kuemper looked sharp on Saturday, rolling to a win on the road over Denison Schleswig. The matchup featured two teams considered to be favorites in the Hawkeye 10 Conference in the preseason. Kuemper never trailed and built a 25-point lead in the 4th quarter. They had five players score in double figures, hitting 51% from the field. Kuemper knocked down 12 of 26 from beyond the arc.

Carson Kanne put Kuemper up for good with the first points of  the game, hitting a shot in the lane while drawing a foul. The 3-0 grew to 7-4 on a bucket from Tregan Beiter and from Brock Badding. Beiter added a pair of free throws a few minutes later with Carson Kanne scoring inside to make it 11-6. A Beitere three moved the lead to 14-8 and DJ Vonnahme extended it to 16-8. Kuemper went up 10 in the first quarter on a pair of free throws from Carson Kanne. Kanne hit a three late in the quarter, growing the lead to 26-13. Denison Schleswig went on a run, pulling within 27-17 at the end of the 1st quarter. Kuemper pulled away again to start the 2nd quarter with Michael Kasperbauer knocking down a three to start the run. Brock Badding added a pair of 3’s, extending the lead to 36-22. Hans Kraus added a nice rebound and basket, followed by a Michael Kasperbauer three. A Brock Badding three extended the Knights lead 44-26. The lead stayed around 14-18 late into the 2nd quarter before Denison Schleswig pulled within 48-37. Kuemper got a pair of free throws and led 50-37 at half.

Tregan Beiter helped Kuemper to a strong start in the 3rd quarter, putting them up 54-40. Kuemper slowly pulled away, going up 71-52 on a three by Brock Badding. Tregan Beiter and Carson Kanne scored on back-to-back possessions and Kuemper led 76-52. DJ Vonnahme gave Kuemper their largest lead of the game at 80-55 as they cruised to a 86-68 win.

Michael Kasperbauer led five players in double figures with 17-points. Tregan Beiter added 16-points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Carson Kanne scored 15-points and 3 steals, Brock Badding hit 4-3’s, scoring 14-points while Carter Putney scored 11-points with a team high 9 rebounds. DJ Vonnahme finished with 6 assists.

The Knights improved to 1-1 overall and will host Harlan on KCIM on Tuesday.
