Kuemper At Greene County

Kuemper 39

Greene County 3

Kuemper knocked off their second ranked team in their last three games, this time in convincing fashion. Tommy Fitzsimmons booted a 35-yard field goal on the opening possession but it was a dominating defense effort that helped set the tone. The Knights defense out scored the Rams on Greene County’s first possession. Jake Hausman had a fumble bounce into  his arms and he raced 47-yards for the touchdown, putting Kuemper up 10-0 with 3:46 left in the 1st quarter. The Knights defense held the Rams to 81-yards through the air and 69-yards on the ground. Tate Bieret and Kent Sanders spent a good portion of their night making plays in the Rams backfield as the down lineman did a nice job keeping them clean of blockers. Kuemper put the game away late in the half, up 17-0, forcing the Rams to punt with 0:56 left, then scoring before the half to go up 24-0 at half. Greene County was limited on offense in the 2nd half, losing starting quarterback Gabe Ebersole to an injury that hindered their passing and rushing game.

Kuemper took the opening drive from their own 20-yard line, marching the ball down the field on the ground, before stalling out. Tommy Fitzsimmons booted a 35-yard field goal, putting them up 3-0 with 6:51 left in the 1st quarter. Greene County was moving the ball with the quarterback run game on their first drive but a fumble that bounced into the arms of Jake Hausman, who had nothing in front of him and the endzone put the Knights up 10-0 and Greene County struggled to move the ball the rest of the half. Kuemper struggled on the second drive of the game, getting the ball back for the third time with 5:21 left in the half. They started at their own 34-yard line and moved down the field. Kaesin Pierce made a nifty run on a flair to him out of the backfield, breaking tackles and working his way to the 10-yard line. He scored from a yard out a few plays later, making it 17-0 with 2:27 left in the half. A three and out for Greene County set Kuemper up for their final score of the half. Brock Badding hit Ben Gerken for a 9-yard touchdown with 0:17 left and the Knights were up 24-0 at half.

Greene County had their best drive of the game to start the 3rd. They established the running game, marching downfield on the ground. Nathan Behne showed his leg strength, booting a 49-field goal, that would have been good from well over 50. That cut the Kuemper lead to 24-3 with 8:24 left in the 3rd quarter. Kuemper answered with a nice drive, scoring on a 2-yard run from Brock Badding. The Knights defense forced a punt and Badding hit Michael Kasperbauer for a 77-yard touchdown. Kasperbauer got behind the defense, then broke a tackle at the 10-yard line to score. The lead was extended to 39-3 with 2:33 left in the 3rd quarter, starting the continuous clock. Both teams punted on their remaining possessions before Kuemper took a knee to end the game.

Brock Badding had 247-yards passing with a pair of touchdowns. Michael Kasperbauer had 7 catches for 95-yards and a touchdown. Kaesin Pierce had 57-yards rushing and a touchdown. Tate Bieret had  team high 9 tackles with a pair of sacks. Jake Hausman returned a fumble 47-yards for a touchdown.

The Knights improved to 3-2 overall but 2-0 in the district and will host Des Moines Christian in a battle of the only teams without a district loss on KCIM on Friday.
