The Carroll Tigers dropped their district opener despite holding a 15-point lead late at home Friday night. The last two meetings between MOC and Carroll were low-scoring sludge fest, but Friday night’s name saw an offensive explosion. The ball game was tied at the end of the first quarter, and the first score came halfway through the second quarter, with Carroll taking a 7-0 lead on a Carter Essick 38-yard touchdown pass to Chase Ragaller. MOC-FV responded to the Carroll touchdown with their own, but the Tigers still led 7-6. With just under 1:30 left in the second quarter, MOC-FV took their first lead of the game on a QB sneak to lead 12-7. Carroll would add a late field but trailed 12-10 going into the locker room. Kieren Polking converted his second field goal of the game, hitting a 25-yarder as Carroll retook a lead 13-12 in the third quarter. The Tiger offense continued their momentum as Essick found Ragaller again for their second touchdown connection as Carroll extended their lead to 20-12. Carroll extended their lead to two touchdowns on an Essick sneak to make the score 27-12. The Dutchman would answer on their next possession with an 80-yard touchdown as they cut into the Tiger lead 27-19. MOC tied the game up after a Carroll fumble at 27-27. With just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Dutchman regained the lead on a 28-yard touchdown to make the score 34-27. Both teams scored a touchdown late, but Carroll fell to MOC-FV 40-34.

Carter Essick was 12/29 for 277 yards and threw for three touchdowns. Carroll struggled to run the football, as they only totaled 58 yards as a team. Reece Ziegmann was the leading rusher for the Tigers, as he had 32 yards on the ground. The Dutchman had a hard time covering Chase Ragaller, as he recorded five catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Ragaller defensively was the leading tackler for Carroll as he recorded nine tackles. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 in district play. Carroll is back in action on Friday on the road against Bishop Heelen on KIKD 106.7.
