ACGC 35

South Central Calhoun 21

South Central Calhoun had a lead in the 3rd quarter but ACGC scored after facing 3rd and goal from the 21-yard, adding touchdowns following an interception and an onside kick and pulled away in the 4th quarter to remain unbeaten. The Titans played well but left a few plays on the field, suffering their first loss of the season in a matchup of ranked teams. The Titans were able to throw the ball well, finishing with 314-yards through the air but three interceptions and two turnovers on downs limited their chances against a Charger team that kept pounding the ball on the ground. ACGC threw two passes because they were having success with Mike Fuller on the ground. Fuller finished with 205-yards on 23 carries, scoring three touchdowns while quarterback Jathan South ran for 158-yards and two more touchdowns. The Chargers had 432-yards on the ground.

Both offenses moved the ball in the 1st quarter but both defenses made plays when they needed to. Jathan South picked off a half-back pass from the Titans on the opening possession. The Chargers moved the ball and looked to have scored, but a assist call nullified the touchdown and Keegan Soard made a great tackle at the goal line on 4th down to halt the drive. South Central Calhoun moved the ball from their own goal line, but turned over on downs at the Chargers 12-yard line. ACGC pounced on their next possession, leaning on Mike Fuller who scored on a 34-yard run, putting the Chargers up 7-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. South Central Calhoun answered on their next drive when Gavin Batta found Charlie Nattress for a 34-yard touchdown on 4th down. The Titans tied the game with 5:47 left in the half. A Charger fumble looked like it would give the Titans a chance to grab the lead but Jathan South picked off the Titans pass on the first play and ACGC gained the momentum back. South scored seven plays later, putting the Chargers  up 14-7 just before half.

The Titans defense came out strong to start the 2nd half, being the aggressor, winning the line of scrimmage, getting pressure in the backfield. They forced a punt on the Chargers opening drive, setting up a South Central Calhoun touchdown. The Titans scored quickly when Gavin Batta hit Keegan Soard on a slant. Soard broke a tackle and cut back to the Titans sideline. He outran the defense before breaking a tackle near the 10-yard line on his way to a nifty 59-yard touchdown catch. South Central Calhoun went for 2, but didn’t get it and trailed 14-13. The defense won first down, forcing the Chargers to pass on second and third down. Neither passes were completed and the Titans forced a punt, which they got a hand on. South Central Calhoun took the ball over at the Chargers 32-yard line. Zach Trott punched it in from a yard out on the sixth play of the drive, giving the Titans a 21-14 lead after they converted the 2-point conversion. ACGC went back to Mike Fuller, reestablishing control of the line of scrimmage. The Chargers moved the ball down the field, scoring on an 8-yard run by Fuller, tying the game with 10.4 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. A South Central Calhoun interception, their third of the game, swung the momentum completely to the Chargers as Jathan South capitalized on the interception with a 19-yard run giving ACGC the lead for good. The Chargers recovered an onside kick as South Central Calhoun left the  ball bounce on a short kick and didn’t fall on the ball. ACGC marched the ball down the field, getting inside the 5 before a pair of penalties pushed them back to the 21-yard line. ACGC took complete control of the game on the next two plays. Fuller scampered 17-yards on the 3rd down play, then scored on the next play, putting the Chargers up by two scores. South Central Calhoun moved the ball down the field with a controlled passing game, but turned it over on downs at the ACGC 21-yard line with 2:02 left and the Chargers ran out the clock.

Gavin Batta passed for 314-yards and a pair of touchdowns. Keegan Soard had 7 catches for 139-yards and a touchdown while Charlie Nattress caught 4 passes for 88-yards and a touchdown. Brock Nattress led the defense with 6 tackles.

The Titans head to IKM-Manning on KKRL on Friday.
