A quick start wasn’t enough for IKM-Manning as they fall for the first time this season in a game that went back and forth. The Wolves jumped out 14-0 in the 1st quarter but were outscored 20-0 in the 2nd quarter and trailed at half. They struggled to contain the Cardinals running game, allowing 306-yards and 6.8-yards per carry. IKM-Manning was able to move the ball, finishing with 149-yards rushing and a solid night throwing the ball, with Ben Ramsey completing 15-22 for 136-yards and three touchdowns. Ramsey didn’t throw any interceptions, but the Wolves did have a fumble.
Ramsey hit Ross Kusel on a 17-yard touchdown to open the scoring with 3:40 left in the 1st quarter. The Wolves added another score on a 4-yard run by Davis Rasmussen, finishing a 8-play 47-yard drive. IKM-Manning controlled the first quarter, but things changed midway through the 2nd quarter. Earlham got their first score on an 2-yard run by Caleb Smith, pulling within 14-6, then scored less than five minutes later on another run by Smith, this time from a yard out. The Wolves lead was trimmed to 14-12 and they hoped they could add to the lead before half. Earlham made a stop and struck for another score with 1:09 left in the half on a 29-yard touchdown from Blake Reynolds to Ty Forcht. The Cardinals got the 2-point conversion and took a 20-14 lead into half.
Earlham extended the lead early in the 3rd quarter on a 58-yard run by Ryan Stiles, putting them up 26-14. IKM-Manning chipped away, scoring on a 19-yard run by Lane Sams, ending a 6-play, 52-yard drive. The Wolves were within a score and quickly tied the game when Ben Ramsey hit Lane Sams on a 15-yard touchdown on the eleventh play of a 60-yard drive. The Wolves went for two and didn’t get it, leaving the game tied at 26, heading to the 4th quarter. The Cardinals gained control again, scoring twice in under a minute on a 9-yard run by Blake Reynolds and a 15-yard run by Caleb Smith. The second touchdown came after the Cardinals had recovered an onside kick. Earlham led 40-26 with 6:48 left. IKM-Manning quickly marched down the field, going 49-yards on 8-plays, scoring on a Ben Ramsey 10-yard pass to Lane Sams. Davis Rasmussen kicked the extra point and IKM-Manning trailed 40-33. Earlham held on and improved to 2-1 on the season. The loss dropped IKM-Manning to 2-1. The Wolves head to Riverside on Friday. The Bulldogs are 1-2.
Ben Ramsey threw for 136-yards and 3 touchdowns with Ross Kusel catching 3 passes for 24-yards and a touchdown. Davis Rasmussed led the running game with 61-yards and a touchdown on 12 carries while Ben Langel had 60-yards on 17 carries. Nolan Kerkhoff and Ross Kusel both had 7.5 tackles.
