Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: East Sac Defense Takes Control in Win At Missouri Valley

The East Sac defense gave up a pair of touchdowns in the 1st half but shut out the Big Red in the 2nd half, coming up with a fumble and two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown late in the game to seal the win. The Raiders defense continued it’s trend of creating turnovers, forcing five in the game with two fumble recoveries and three more interceptions, giving them eleven on the season. The Raiders offense was able to establish their ground game, finishing with 173-yards, while averaging 5.2-yards per carry. East Sac had eight different guys carry the ball with four making catches in the pass game that finished with 113-yards. The defense held Missouri Valley to 162-yards passing and 134-yards on the ground.

The Raiders moved the ball on the opening possession of the game, but missed a field goal from 45-yards. The defense quickly responded with Ashler Lawler intercepting the first play for the Big Red. That set up a 23-yard field goal from Luke Wright and the Raiders went up 3-0 with 8:15 left in the 1st quarter. Missouri Valley answered quickly, scoring on their next drive. Ben Hansen scored on a 15-yard run, putting Missouri Valley up 6-3 with 8:10 left in the quarter. The touchdown was set up by a 70-yard scamper from Brody Lager. East Sac punted on their next two possessions but the Raiders defense forced a pair of punts, sandwiched around a Missouri Valley fumble. East Sac took advantage of the second punt, marching the ball down field, scoring on a 25-yard pass from Tate Lahr to Charlie Veit with 4;48 left in the half. The Raiders took the lead back at 10-6. Both teams punted on quick possessions, allowing Missouri Valley enough time to strike before the end of  the half. They started the drive with 2:26 left in the half and scored in under a minute on a 3-yard run by Ben Hansen. The 2-point conversion failed and the Raiders trailed 12-10 at half.

East Sac punted on their first-two possessions of the 2nd half, but the defense forced a pair of punts and recovered a fumble. The Raiders offense responded, scoring a touchdown on a 21-yard run by Landon Grindle. The Raiders took the lead for good with 5:02 left in the 3rd quarter. Luke Wright kicked his second extra point, making it 17-12. The Raiders offense moved the ball but wasn’t able to capitalize the rest of the 3rd or 4th quarters. The East Sac defense continued to control the Big Red, forcing another punt and intercepting a pair of passes. Luke Wright made the second interception, returning it 32-yards for the game sealing touchdown with 6:01 remaining.

Tate Lahr threw for 113-yards and a touchdown. Landon Grindle paced the running game with 65-yards and a score. Charlie Veit made 5 catches for 76-yards and a score and recovered a fumble and  had an interception. Karter Ludwig had a game high 8 tackles and Luke Wernimont finished with 7.5 tackles. Luke Wright made a field goal and took an interception back 32-yards for a touchdown.

The Raiders improved to 2-1 on the season, having won two games in a row. They travel to 1-2 Emmetsburg on Friday.
