What an exciting football game on 93.7 KKRL on Friday as Ar-We-Va dominated the 1st half, Glidden Ralston dominated the 2nd half, but the Rockets found a way late to win, improving the 2-0, dropping Glidden Ralston to 1-1.

Ar-We-Va built a 19-0 lead at half, holding Glidden Ralston to under 60-yards of offense in the 1st half, while racking up over 200-yards themselves. Glidden Ralston returned the favor in the 2nd half, shutting down the Rockets, forcing two turnovers on downs, two punts and a turnover while getting their quarterback run game going. Glidden Ralston took their first lead of the game on a 40-yard pass from Colby Wallace to Alex Daniel with 1:14 left in the game. That was too much time for the Rockets who got big catches from Devon Ehlers and Jonathan Riesselman, setting up a short touchdown run for Blayne Smith and Ar-We-Va scored with 18.8 seconds left, grabbing the lead back. A Tyson VonGlan sack ended the game and Ar-We-Va escaped for a second straight game after giving up a big 2nd half lead.

Blayne Smith hit Wyatt Ragaller for a 30-yard touchdown with 2:08 left in the 1st quarter to open the scoring. A Wade Ragaller interception set up another Rocket score. Ragaller jumped a passing lane on the Wildcats third drive, giving the Rockets the ball at their own 35-yard line. Blayne Smith snuck in from a yard out, capping a 10-play drive, putting the Rockets up 13-0 with 7:54 left in the half. The lead grew to 19-0 on a 9-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Ragaller with 5:43 left in the half. Wade Ragaller picked off his second pass of the half on the Wildcats next drive but Colby Wallace returned the favor at the goal line with 33.6 left in the half.

The Wildcats used that momentum to stop Ar-We-Va on their opening drive of the 2nd half. Glidden Ralston then drove 65-yards, scoring on a 1-yard run by Colby Wallace with 5:02 left in the 3rd. The defense forced Ar-We-Va into a three and out, getting the ball back for their offense. Wallace scampered 24-yards up the middle, putting the Wildcats back on the board with 2:34 left in the 3rd, trailing 19-12. Ar-We-Va fumbled late in the 3rd, giving Glidden Ralston the ball at the Rockets 14-yard line. Colby Wallace scored four plays later, pulling the Wildcats within 19-18 with .5 seconds left in the quarter. Both teams punted to start the 4th quarter before Ar-We-Va went for it on 4th down, failing to pick it up, giving Glidden Ralston the ball at the Wildcats 24-yard line. The Wildcats moved the ball to midfield, but faced a 3rd and long. Colby Wallace found Alex Daniel behind the defense, down the right sideline for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed but the Wildcats led 24-19 with 1:14 left. Wyatt Ragaller returned the ensuing kickoff to the Rockets 31-yard line with 1:09 left. Blayne Smith found Devon Ehlers across the middle, then found Jonathan Riesselman down the middle to the 2-yard line. Smith snuck it in from a yard out a couple plays later and Ar-We-Va reclaimed the lead with 18.8 left. The Wildcats had one more chance but Tyson VonGlan sacked Colby Wallace and Glidden Ralston couldn’t stop the clock.

The 2-0 Rockets host Siouxland Christian on Friday while the 1-1 Wildcats host Colo-Nesco.
