Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Five Area Volleyball Teams Competed in Tournaments on Saturday

Volleyball Results Saturday, September 2nd 

Audubon and South Central Calhoun At SCC Tournament 

Audubon and South Central Calhoun both went 5-1 on Saturday with Audubon finishing in 1st place and the Titans taking 2nd place. Audubon topped the Titans 2-0 while Audubon fell to Pocahontas Area 2-1. The Wheelers went 11-3 in sets while the Titans finished 10-3 in sets. Pocahontas Area took 3rd, going 4-2 in matches with losses to South Central Calhoun and Spencer, both in 3 sets. South Hamilton and Spencer both went 3-3 in matches, Manson NW Webster ended the day 1-5 and Perry finished 0-6. 

The Wheelers were really strong all day, especially in serving, finishing with 61 aces. They had four players in double figures in aces, helping them beat South Hamilton and Perry in their first two matches. They started the day with a pair of wins before falling to Pocahontas Area. The Wheelers bounced back to beat Manson NW Webster, then edged South Central Calhoun 2-0, winning 21-19 and 21-18. Audubon closed out their day with a 21-13, 24-22 win over Spencer. 

The Titans had to battle early, starting the morning at 8:30 with a hard fought win over Pocahontas Area. They rallied in set one to win 23-21, then fell in set two before cruising in set 3, winning 15-6. The Titans rolled in their next two matches, beating Spencer and Perry, both 2-0. The Titans topped South Hamilton, improving to 2-0. South Central Calhoun suffered their only loss in their fifth match, losing 2-0 to Audubon. They bounced back to beat Manson NW Webster 2-0, finishing 5-1. 

Mattie Nielsen led the Wheelers with 52 kills and Harlow Miller had 41 kills. Addie Hocker led the Wheelers with 119 assists. She had a terrific all-around day with 20 aces and 21 digs. Nielsen paced the back row with 42 digs, Harlow Miller adds 25 digs, Kadence Brannan-Sporrer added 22 digs and Anna Larsen had 18 digs. Maddie Kasperbauer finished 14 aces, Anna Larsen and Harlow Miller both had 10 aces and Mattie Nielsen finished with 7 aces. 

South Central Calhoun stats are not available until later this week.

East Sac and Ar-We-Va At Ridge View Tournament 

East Sac went 2-2 on the day with wins over West Monona and Ar-We-Va and losses to Westwood in 3 sets and Ridge View in two tight matches. The Rockets finished the tournament 0-3, losing to East Sac, Westwood and West Monona. 

The Raiders played well, edging past West Monona, then cruising by Ar-We-Va. Even in their losses there were positives to take out of the matches. They fell in a tough three set match to Westwood, dropping 24-22 in the 1st set and 17-15 in set 3. They dropped both sets to Ridge View but both sets were 25-23. 

Ar-We-Va struggled, playing their first matches of the season. They lost to East Sac in two sets and Westwood in two sets. They scored in double figures in both sets to Westwood. No scores were reported in the loss to West Monona. 

The Raiders had three girls in double figures in kills with Addisen Ehler leading the team with 21 while both Kenna Meyer and Kate Vondrak each finished with 14 kills. Vondrak had a team high 41 assists while Sidney Bieret added 25 assists. Jen Aschinger paced the back row with 32 digs, Addisen Ehler had 17 digs and Kate Vondrak added 15 digs. Kenna Meyer also had 11 digs. Kate Vondrak had a team high 10 blocks and Kendall Quirk finished with 5 blocks. Addisen Ehler paced the Raiders with 6 aces with Kate Vondrak adding 5 aces. 

Trista Reis had a team high 3 kills for Ar-We-va while Makayla Schrad and Annalee Wittrock both had 2 kills. Amber Ragaller finished the day with 10 assists. Trista Reis added a team high 12 digs while Delaney Schurke had 10 digs and Emam Leiting finished with 6 digs. Delaney Schurke had a team high 3 aces.

Ogden, Madrid and CAM Anita At Coon Rapids Bayard Tournament 

The Crusaders went 2-1 in their own tournament on Saturday, going 4-2 in sets played. Coon Rapids Bayard played their best match against Madrid, finishing the match with 11 blocks, winning 21-14 and 21-13. They also topped Ogden 21-14, 21-13.  The Crusaders hit .154 against Ogden and .036 against Madrid but the defense as the net set the tempo for the rest of the match. Malia Clayburg had a huge match in the loss to CAM Anita, finishing with 21 digs. Coon Rapids Bayard nearly won the opening set against the Cougars, falling 23-21. 

Malia Clayburg led the Crusaders with 14 kills, 35 digs and 5 aces. She added 4 blocks. Anna Hart added 7 kills with 20 digs and 5 blocks. Lydia Hofbauer had a team high 8 blocks with 13 digs and Mya Downing had 13 digs with 10 assists. Ella Heithoff finished with the team lead in assists with 13 to go with 2 aces. Aubrey Hofbauer had 11 digs, 5 blocks and 4 aces. 

Coon Rapids Bayard sits 5-6 on the season and will host Exira-EHK on Thursday.
