Beckman Catholic earned a State Championship in Class 2A, using a couple of big innings to knock off Underwood, who was making their first state title game appearance. Underwood scored a run in the 3rd but Beckman answered with 3-runs in the bottom of the 3rd, then put the game away with 4-runs in the 6th. Both teams finished with 9-hits with Underwood having a pair of errors but didn’t allow any unearned runs.
Garrett Luett got on base with a 2-out single in the top of the 1st for Underwood, advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball but is stranded there as Luke Sigwarth picks up his first strikeout on the mound to get out of the inning scoreless. Luke Schieltz singles to open the bottom 1st for Beckman Catholic. Schieltz is doubled at 1st base on a fly ball to right field as he was breaking to 2nd base and didn’t get back in time. Scoreless after the 1st inning.
Luke Sigwarth got Underwood in order top of the 2nd with a strikeout and a nice catch in center field by Luke Schieltz. Scoreless going bottom 2nd. Matthew Florence reached on an error to start the bottom 2nd. Jackson Oberbroeckling reached on another error with no outs. Eli Kluesner grounds into a 6-4-3 double play, moving Aiden Engler (PR) to 3rd base. Engler is picked off 3rd to end the inning. Still scoreless.
Lucas Bose and Mason Boothby get back-to-back singles, but Bose is picked off 3rd for the 2nd out. Boothby scores from 2nd base on a single to right field by Jack Van Fossen and Underwood leads 1-0. The Eagles load the bases with back-to-back walks, but Sigwarth induces a ground ball out up the first baseline. Dylan Recker walks to start the bottom 3rd, Drew Thier singles and both advance on a passed. Recker scores on a single to left field by Luke Schieltz, tying the game at 1. Luke Sigwarth with the sac bunt moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1-out. Nate Offerman grounds out to short, scoring Thier from 3rd and Matthew Florence singles to right field to score Schieltz from 3rd and Beckman takes a 3-1 lead.
Both teams strand a runner in the 4th, Underwood on a walk and Beckman Catholic on their 5th hit of the game. Ryker Adair replaced Mason Boothby on the hill to start the bottom 4th for Underwood. Beckman Catholic leads 3-1.
Underwood opens the 5th with three straight singles from Mason Boothby, Jack Van Fossen and Garrett Luett but a infield fly rule and a 4-6-3 ends their threat. Underwood left the bases loaded in the 3rd and had bases loaded with no outs in the 5th and scored a total of 1-run.
Luke Sigwarth gets a 1-out single to right-center. Nate Offerman walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd. A big strikeout by Ryker Adair, his second since coming in to pitch ends the Trailblazers threat. Rob Kronlage replaces Luke Sigwarth to start the 6th on the mound for Beckman Catholic and strikes out the side. Beckman Catholic leads 3-1 going bottom 6th. Jake Schmidt walks with 1-out, moving to 2nd on a single to left-center by Dylan Recker. Drew Thier with an infield single, then Luke Scheiltz scores 2-runs with a single to right field, passed the drawn-in infield. Beckman Catholic extends the lead to 5-1. Easton Roberston comes in to pitch for Underwood and walks Luke Sigwarth, then Drew Thier scores on a wild pitch. Nate Offerman fly’s out to center, scoring Schieltz from 3rd and the lead grew to 7-1.
Jack Van Fossen singled to right-center for his third hit of the game with 2-out in the top of the 7th. Garrett Luett singled to left top put runners on 1st and 2nd base but a fly out to right field ends the game.
Beckman Catholic claims the State Championship in Class 2A, winning 7-1.
Luke Schieltz had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs while scoring twice. Drew Thier added a pair of hits for Beckman Catholic and scored twice. Nate Offerman had 2 RBI and Dylan Recker scored a pair of runs. Luke Sigwarth earned the win, giving up 7 hits and 1 earned run in 5 innings. Rob Kronlage pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Jack Van Fossen and Garrett Luett both had 3 hits for Underwood with Van Fossen driving in a run. Mason Boothby added a pair of hits and scored a run and Lucas Bose added their other hit. Mason Boothby took the loss, going 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs with a stikeout.
Beckman Catholic finished as the State Champion with a 25-9 record while Underwood ends the season at 22-6.
