Gehlen Catholic and Lynville-Sully caped the Class 1A State Baseball Quartferfinals Monday night. Lynville-Sully threw their ace Conner Matson, and he struck out two Gehlen Catholic hitters in the top of the first but had some struggles giving up a hit and a walk. Matson would only go two innings before being taken out. In the first inning, both teams sent five guys to the plate picking up one hit each but were going to the second inning scoreless. The game would remain scoreless, going to the bottom of the third. In the third’s home half, Lynnville-Sully pushed seven runs on five hits and sent 12 batters to the plate. Gehlen Catholic got a runner on base in the top of the fourth inning but could not push a run across. Lynville-Sully extended their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth off of two hits. Gehlen Catholic came storming back at the top of the fifth, plating seven runs on three hits. In the inning, Lynnville-Sully walked three batters, hit one, and committed three errors on defense. Both teams would go scoreless the rest of the game, and Lynville-Sully would go on to win 8-7.

For Lynnville-Sully, they scored eight runs on nine hits, with seven of their runs coming in the third inning. Gehlen Catholic scored seven runs on four hits and committed one error on defense. All seven of the Gehlen Catholic runs the game in the fifth inning. Lynville-Sully advances to the state semifinal round to take on Remsen St. Mary’s.
