Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Area Softball Teams Go 2-3 On Friday

South Central Calhoun at SE Valley

SCC 1               (3 Innings)

 

The Titans struggled on the road losing in three innings against Southeast Valley. SCC managed three hits in the game. SE Valley scored the game’s first runs, plating four in the bottom of the first inning. They added eight more in the second to take a 12-0 lead going to the third. SCC scored a run in the top of the third inning off of one hit. SE Valley added another run in the bottom of the third to beat SCC 13-1.

Olivia Toms scored the lone run of the game for SCC. The Titan’s hits came off the bats of Mady Smidt, Mia Babcock, and Keira Hammen. SCC hitters struck out six times in three innings. The loss drops the Titans to 2-14 on the season. SCC is back in action on Monday at Emmetsburg.

Woodbine at Coon-Rapids-Bayard

The Crusaders lost a home to go good Woodbine squad Friday night. Woodbine scored the game’s first runs in the top of the first inning, plating two runs. Woodbine added another run in the top of the third to lead 3-0. The top of the fourth inning is when Woodbine blew the game open, plating for runs to lead 7-0. Both teams went scoreless the rest of the game, and Woodbine beat CRB 7-0 in Rolling Valley Conference play.

CRB picked up five hits in the game. Anna Hart and Maddy Mason each recorded a double at the plate. Lacie Davis, Breeley Clayburg, and Kadey Olson also picked up hits in the game. The Crusaders committed six errors that led to six unearned runs. Anna Hart went the distance in the circle, pitching seven innings, giving up nine hits, and striking out eight Woodbine hitters. The loss drops the Crusader’s record to 8-13 and 6-5 in conference play. CRB is back in action on Monday at CAM.

CAM at Glidden-Ralston

Glidden-Ralston wins in a walk-off fashion against CAM in a back-and-forth game against two teams neck and neck in the Rolling Valley Conference. In the top of the first inning, CAM threatened to score by loading the bases on two hits and a walk but could not score. In the home half of the first inning, the Wildcats pushed a run across to take an early 1-0 lead. Venessa Koehler led the inning off with a single, proceeded to steal second, and was later brought home on an RBI single by Ashlynn Tigges. CAM threatened again in the top of the second, but a run was thrown out at home, resulting in Glidden-Ralston holding on to their 1-0 lead. CAM was able to tie the game up in the top of the third inning without recording a hit. CAM scored off of two hit batters and a couple of wild pitches. CAM took their first lead of the game at 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning. They scored one run off of one hit and a Wildcat error. Glidden-Ralston responded by regaining the lead in the home half of the fifth by plating two runs. The Wildcats scored the runs off of one hit and a CAM error.

Trailing 3-2, CAM would take the lead for the second time plating two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 over the Wildcats. Glidden-Ralston didn’t score in the bottom of the sixth. CAM threatened to blow the game open at the top of the seventh, but another runner was thrown out at the plate, and Glidden-Ralston went to the bottom of the seventh, trailing 4-3. In the home half of the seventh, Addy Boell reached by getting hit by a pitch. Allison Snyder follows with a single to center field, putting two runners on base with no one out. Kate Bergmeier bunted into a fielder’s choice, with Boell thrown out at third. Koehler singled to load the bases with one out. Tiela Janssen followed with a single to center field that drove in two runs to win the game 5-4.

Tri-Center at Audubon

Audubon was out-hit but picked up a home conference win Friday night. Tri-Center scored the game’s first runs, plating a single run in the top of the third inning. Tri-Center extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning by scoring two more runs. Audubon cut into the Tri-Center lead by responding with two runs of their own to make the score 3-2. The Wheelers held Tri-Center scoreless in the top of the sixth and took their first lead of the game in the home half plating two runs to lead 4-3. Audubon held Tri-Center scoreless in the top of the seventh and won 4-3.

The Wheelers only recorded one hit in the game, coming off the bat of Kylee Hartl. Audubon worked eight walks in the game and only struck out four times over seven innings of play. Alexis Obermeier went the distance in the circle picking up the win. She gave up four hits and struck out 11 Tri-Center hitters. The win improves Audubon’s record to 13-7 and 10-6 in Western Iowa Conference play. The Wheelers are back in action on Monday at Bedford.

The Wolves played well at home but dropped a conference game at home on Friday night. IKM-Manning recorded six hits in the game, with one going for extra bases. IKM-Manning scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off of two hits. In the top of the sixth inning, the Wolves added a pair of runs off of three hits. Despite IKM-Manning playing well at home, they lost to AHSTW 5-3.

Alikxa McGinn recorded two of the six hits. Ella Richards took the loss in the circle going all seven innings giving up eight hits and five earned runs while striking out one AHSTW hitter. The loss drops IKM-Manning to 2-20 and 0-16 in conference play. The Wolves are back in action on Monday at home against South Central Calhoun.
