Carroll was down double digits early and attempted to rally late but came up just short at home Thursday night. ADM was aggressive at the plate to start the game. They score seven runs in the top half of the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. ADM also took advantage of three Carroll errors in the inning. Carroll was also aggressive at the plate but went in order, and ADM took a 7-0 lead going to the second. Linkin Weitl settled down after a rocky first inning and limited ADM to only one hit in the second without a run coming across. In the home half of the second, Carroll was able to get two runners on base, with Jake Jorgensen picking up a hit but was unable to score, and ADM still held a 7-0 lead going to the third inning. ADM added another run in the third and fourth innings to extend their lead 9-0 over Carroll. In the home half of the fourth, Carroll was able to plate a run to cut the ADM lead to 9-1.

ADM extended their lead back to nine runs scoring one run in the top of the fifth. Carroll went in order to end the fifth inning, and in the top half of the sixth, ADM added another run to lead 11-1. Needing a run to keep the game going, Carroll scored three runs on three hits and trailed 11-4 to the final inning of play. ADM plated three runs in the top half of the seventh to put their lead back to ten at 14-4. Carroll continued to fight in the home half of the seventh, taking advantage of spotty ADM pitching. In the seventh, Carroll scored four runs and worked five walks in the inning, with three runs coming across the plate due to wild pitches. Carroll sent all nine hitters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but went on to lose 14-8 to ADM.

Carroll recorded seven hits in the game. Jorgensen recorded three hits at the plate. Weitl went five innings for the Tigers recording three strikeouts. Carroll is back in action Friday on the road against Nevada on 93.7 KKRL.

Kuemper at Harlan

Kuemper rallied late but came up short on the road in a tough Hawkeye Ten Conference matchup Thursday night. Harlan scored the first runs of the game in the home half of the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead going to the third. The Cyclones added three more in the home half of the third and took a 4-0 lead over the Knights to the fourth inning. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning, but Harlen took a 5-0 lead going to the fifth. Harlan extended their lead over Kuemper by plating one run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth innings. Kuemper came to bat in the top of the seventh, trailing 7-0. In the event, Kuemper would score six runs but come up short and lose to Harlan 7-6.

Kuemper put the ball in play, recording 11 hits and only striking out four times. The Knights also left nine runs on base in the game. Trevor Rial, Logan Sibenaller, and Carter Putney recorded multiple hits in Thursday’s game. Kuemper used two pitchers, and they combined to go six innings giving up six earned runs and striking out five Harlan batters. Kuemper is back in action on Monday at home in a varsity doubleheader against Shenandoah.

Southeast Valley at Coon Rapids-Bayard

Coon Rapids-Bayard won handily over Southeast Valley at home by only recording five hits. CRB pitched well in the game, only giving up one hit. CRB scored the game’s first run by plating a run in the home half of the first inning. At the bottom of the second, CRB opened the game up, plating 11 runs. The Crusaders added another run in the third and four more in the fourth inning, winning big 17-0 over SE Valley at home.

CRB only recorded five hits in the game. Lance Clayburg drove in five runs on one hit with a home run. Kolby Culbertson, Cal Heydon, Wyatt Oswald, and Tyler Mohr also recorded a hit in the game. The win improves CRB’s record to 17-2. The Crusaders are back in action Friday on the road against Boyer Valley.

Audubon dropped a conference game at home that was closer than what the final score indicated. Underwood scored the game’s first runs in the top of the first inning, plating five runs. Audubon responded in the home half with three of their own and trailed 5-3 going to the second inning. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning. Underwood added another run in the third and fourth innings and led Audubon 7-3 going to the home half of the fifth inning. Audubon cut the lead to two runs by plating two more in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Wheelers trailed 7-5 going to the top of the seventh when Underwood opened the game up, scoring five runs to take a 12-5 lead going to the bottom of the seventh. Audubon could not score in the seventh and would lose to Underwood 12-5.

Audubon recorded six hits in the game. Audubon threw three pitchers, giving up 12 runs, but only three were earned. Adam Obrecht recorded two hits for the Wheelers. The loss drops Audubon to 3-13 on the season and 1-11 in Western Iowa Conference play.

Missouri Valley was able to string hits together in the 1st inning, scoring 5-runs on their way to the win. The Wolves had 8 hits in the game, but didn’t get on the board until the 6th, scoring 3-runs. The Big Red had built a 9-0 lead by the 6th, scoring a pair of runs in the 4th and 6th innings. 

Ben Ramsey and Kasche Huehn both had 2 hits and both scored a run. Reed Hinners, Lane Sams, Jace Starman and Zander Richards all had a single. Sams and Richards both scored a run. Cooper Perdew took the loss, allowing 9 hits in 5 innings and 7 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. 

The Wolves fall to 6-10 on the season. They travel to Riverside on Friday.
