Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper and Audubon Win in Thursday Softball

Ellie Sibbel had a 2-run home run in the 1st inning and Kaylie Diercksen drove in 3-runs while Alexis Diercksen added a pair of RBI as Kuemper built a 8-2 lead. The Knights still had to hold on as Harlan kept fighting, scoring a pair of runs in the 7th. Kuemper never trailed but couldn’t shake the Cyclones.

Kaylie Diercksen reached on an error and scored on the Ellie Sibbel home run in the 1st but Harlan responded with a run in the 2nd. Melinda Schaefer singled to lead off the 3rd and scored on a single by Kaylie Diercksen. The Knights led 3-1 but Harlan responded with a run in the bottom 3rd. Kuemper had 3 errors, helping the Cyclones keep both innings alive. The game felt close until the 5th. Ally Sommerfeld got the Cyclones in order in the 4th, sparking a 2-run 5th. Sommerfeld singled and Melinda Schaefer followed with a single, Kaylie Diercksen doubled to drive in a pair of runs and Kuemper took a 5-2 lead into the 6th. Charlotte Schwabe hustled out an infield single to start the 6th, followed by Allison Ostrander with a single. Alexis Diercksen doubled to score both. Melinda Schaefer drove in Diercksen and the Knights were in control, up 8-2. The Kuemper defense struggled in the 7th, giving up a pair of unearned runs, finishing the game with 5 errors.

Kaylie Diercksen had 2 hits, including a double with 3 RBI and a run scored. Melinda Schaefer and Allison Ostrander both had 2 hits. Schaefer scored a pair of  runs and Ostrander added a score. Ellie Sibbel had a 2-run home run. Alexis Diercksen doubled, driving a pair of runs. Ally Sommerfeld got the win, going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run with a pair of strikeouts.

Kuemper improves to 14-10 and will head to Boone on Friday.

ADM struck for 5-runs in the 1st inning and Carroll wasn’t able to dig out from the hole, falling for the 4th straight time. Carroll had a pair of hits with Parker Adams and Emma Kuhlmann both singling. Bella Lu scored their run. ADM finished with 11 hits, including a home run and 4-doubles, scoring 3 more runs in the 3rd inning. Carroll scored in the 5th inning to extend the game to the 6th but ADM scored 2-runs and held the Tigers  scoreless in the bottom half.

The loss drops Carroll to 11-12. They head to Nevada on Friday.

Alexis Obermeier struck out 2 batters in five of the six innings finishing with 12 strikeouts as the Wheelers rolled on Thursday. The Wheelers offense was just as sharp, scoring 3-runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings. They batted around the lineup in the 1st inning, highlighted by a triple from Mattie Nielsen and a double from Michelle Brooks. Nielsen would score as did Hartl and Kali Irlmeier. Mattie Nielsen got on base to begin the 2nd inning and scored on a 2-run home run from Kali Irlmeier. Kylee Hartl doubled and scored on a double by Alexis Obermeier, one of her two doubles in the game. Obermeier doubled to open the 6th and scored on a single by Addie Hocker, ending the game.

Kali Irlmeier went 4-4 at the plate with a 2-run home run, a double and 4 RBI. Alexis Obermeier had 3 hits with 2 doubles and Kylee Hartl added a pair of hits with a double and scored twice. Mattie Nielsen tripled and scored twice. Michelle Brooks finished with a double and 2 RBI and Addie Hocker had 2 hits and an RBI. Alexis Obermeier earned the win, going 6 innings, with 12 strikeouts, allowing 3 hits.

The Wheelers improve to 9-5. They host the Audubon-ACGC Tournament on Saturday.

Anna Stangl had a pair of extra base hits, tripling in the 1st inning and scoring on an base hit by Alikxa McGinn. The Wolves didn’t score again until the 7th when Sarah Christensen walked and Karlee Arp came in to run. Arp scored on a double by Anna Stangl. Stangl had 2 of the Wolves 3 hits, going for a double and a triple. Alikxa McGinn had a double and an RBI. Karlee Arp and Anna Stangl had their runs. Missouri Valley scored twice in the 1st inning but didn’t open the game up until late. They scored 7 of their 10 runs in the final three innings.

The loss drops IKM-Manning to 2-11. They head to Riverside on Friday to finish a suspended game and play a full game that was originally scheduled for Friday.
