The Kuemper Knights’ busy week hit a slight roadblock as they fell to West Monona Thursday night.

The Knights picked up a big three inning win over IKM-Manning the day prior 14-1, but the Spartans had different plans for this game. West Monona got their day started in the top of the second where they got a runner home and led 1-0. West Monona added another run in the top of the fourth when Ally Sommerfled took over in the circle. The biggest inning for the Spartans was the fifth when they exploded with six runs. Sommerfeld allowed eight runs off five hits while recording three strikeouts.

Kuemper was down 9-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh and needed things to go their way quickly. Kaci Peter and Melinda Schaefer were able to get runs scored, but that was the extent of the comeback as West Monona closed out the game to win 9-2. Schaefer in this game went 2-3 with a run scored and stolen base while Peter went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
