Baseball Results for Wednesday, May 25th

Carroll at ADM

ADM             12

Carroll            6

The Carroll Tigers had a rough night defensively as they allowed six runs in the first inning as ADM kept their lead and never let go Wednesday.

Carroll was able to get on the board first in the top of the first inning when Mason Vought was credited with an RBI when he was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. ADM put the pedal to the floor when they put up six runs in the bottom of the first half alone and added four more an inning later to lead 10-1. While Tate Schleisman got himself an RBI single in the third inning, Carroll still trailed by a sizable 10-2. ADM kept pouring on the runs as they’d get two more runners home in the third inning and got back ahead by 10 runs at 12-2.

Carroll did see a big difference in offensive output in the fourth inning as they got three runners home. Stone Sibenaller had an RBI on an error, Jake Jorgensen had an RBI groundout, and Trey Tassel had an RBI single. Tassel also came in as a relief pitcher and did well throwing three and a third innings recording three strikeouts while only allowing one hit. Sibenaller had one last RBI groundout recorded in the fifth inning before ADM closed down shop and won it 12-6.

For Carroll, Schleisman went 2-4 with an RBI, Vought went 2-3 with an RBI, and Ragaller went 1-1 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. The Tigers will drop to 0-3 overall on the season. They are back in action right away on Thursday, May 25th when they host North Polk.

Tri-Center at Kuemper

Tri-Center           22

Kuemper            19

For the third time this season, two teams scored nearly 20 runs in a single game as Kuemper fell to Tri-Center in a game that featured 41 runs, 20 combined walks, and 22 combined hits.

Kuemper has had a great start to the season, winning each of their first four games by one run, getting past Treynor, Webster City, LoMa, and Des Moines Christian, and this game was also very close and very competitive. Tri-Center got out ahead 2-0 in the top of the first with an RBI single from Isaac Wolhunter and he was later scored off an error on the Kuemper defense. Kuemper’s response was a massive six run inning that saw Evan Loew drive home two runners off a well hit blooper to right center field and some wild pitches and passed balls by the Tri-Center defense.

The Trojans were able to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the second inning with another error by the Kuemper defense, an RBI single by Sean McGee, and an RBI single by Wolhunter, along with a passed ball. After that tie, the Trojans were able to stay ahead of the Knights. They’d put the game away for the most part in the top of the sixth inning when they got 11 runners home. Tri-Center loaded up the bases off a few walks and hit by pitches and hit no better than a single the entire inning. Kuemper was still getting hits in as they’d add momentarily take the lead before with six runs in the fifth inning at 13-8. The Knights were only able to make a dent in the Trojans lead, adding six runs between the sixth and seventh innings. Kuemper had five different pitchers on the hill in this game with Carter Putney, Evan Loew, and Ryan Sundrup all pitching the most with two innings each. The Knights pitching squad allowed 15 hits, walked seven batters, and struck out seven.

After coming up clutch in the last four games, the Knights came up a bit short and fell 22-19. The Knights are now 4-1 overall on the season. They have an exciting local game coming up on Thursday, May 25th when they travel to take on Coon Rapids Bayard.

West Bend Mallard at South Central Calhoun

West Bend Mallard         6

South Central Calhoun   4

After being tied 2-2, the South Central Calhoun Titans were close to a miracle finish against West Bend Mallard Wednesday, but their comeback win was cut short.

The Titans and Wolverines started off trading runs in the third inning and kept the game competitive throughout. The Titans were able to get ahead in the fifth inning with a run scored to lead 2-1. Brock Nattress got an RBI single that scored Keegan Soard for the lead. West Bend Mallard in their next at bat tied the game up once again at 2-2 and got busy in the top of the seventh. The Wolverines had a massive half inning that got them ahead 6-2 with four runs added to their lead. Charlie Nattress started out the game on the hill and had six strikeouts but was taken out shortly after one run was scored. Noah Hendricks relieved Nattress but he soon had three runs that he allowed that gave the Wolverines plenty of padding to their lead.

In the bottom of the seventh the Titans tried to mount a late game comeback and were able to get two runners across the plate to cut down the West Bend Mallard lead to 6-4. Charlie Nattress had a two RBI single that got two runners home. Unfortunately, the Wolverines were able to stop that comeback short and won 6-4. Nattress aside from pitching had a solid day at the plate going 3-4 with three RBIs.

The Titans are now 0-2 overall on the season. They are back in action on Thursday, May 25th when they take on Southeast Valley at home.

After grabbing an early lead, the Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders never let go of that lead against ACGC Wednesday.

The Crusaders continue to be a premiere team in the area and have started off the season with a 3-0 start. Against ACGC, they got out ahead quickly with a 5-0 lead after two innings. On the hill was Cade Behrens who played a great game. In five innings of work, he allowed only two hits, one earned run, and had six strikeouts in his win. Mason Culbertson had a solid time on the hill as well, throwing two innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs, and recording three strikeouts. ACGC was finally able to get a runner home in the top of the fifth, only for Coon Rapids Bayard to score four runs between the fifth and sixth innings.

Cal Heydon had a big night for the Crusaders, going 3-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, a home run, and two runs scored. Jacob Estrada was also able to record two RBIs by going 2-4 at the plate. Glidden Ralston at Boyer Valley

Glidden Ralston      13

Boyer Valley              5

After a grueling 20-18 win over South Central Calhoun a few days ago, the Glidden Ralston Wildcats were able to snag back-to-back wins while recording double-digit runs against Boyer Valley Wednesday.

That game against the Titans lasted nearly four hours and the Wildcats were more than prepared to go the distance, if need be, against the Bulldogs. Thankfully, they didn’t need to as they got plenty of runs on the board early. They were able to lead off with a run in the first inning, snag two in the second, and blast off with five in the third inning highlighted with a big three RBI home run by Mark Lensch. After amassing a big 9-0 lead, the Wildcats defense was able to keep the boat steady for a majority of the game. John Whitver ran the gauntlet and threw seven innings of work and had two strikeouts and gave up two hits and five runs.

Those five runs for Boyer Valley came late in the sixth and seventh innings. They got one in the sixth and tried for a late game comeback with four runs scored in the seventh. Glidden Ralston though scored four runs of their own in the top of the seventh giving their team enough padding to come away with a 13-5 win. Whitver was also able to record two RBIs while going 1-4 at the plate and Jonathan Bergmeier had a big night going 3-4 with a double with three RBIs. Jackson Sklenar’s night included going 2-3 with a double, triple, and two runs scored.

The Wildcats are now 2-3 overall on the season. They are back in action Friday, May 26th when they host Ar-We-Va.

Exira-EHK      15

Ar-We-Va        0

The Rockets played a solid game against Exira-EHK Wednesday before the Spartans took away the lead for good in the fifth and sixth innings.

In the top of the first inning, the Spartans were able to get a runner home and lead early at 1-0 but didn’t see much more success other than that one run. Ar-We-Va’s defense did a solid job and didn’t allow much movement from the Spartans. Wade Ragaller was on the mound to begin the game and through four and one thirds innings pitched, he recorded 10 strikeouts, but had seven walks on his record. In the top of the fifth inning, disaster struck when Exira-EHK’s bats suddenly came alive. They were able to rattle off seven runs to take a massive 8-0 lead. Ragaller was relieved of his duties and Johnathan Riesselman took over and he too was unable to find answers against the Spartans bats. Ar-We-Va gave up another seven runs in the top of the sixth and the Spartans left Westside with a 15-0 win. The Rockets offensively were unable to record a hit, being walked three times and getting two stolen bases thanks to Wade Ragaller.

The Rockets fall to 0-2 overall on the season. They are back in action on Friday, May 26th when they travel east to take on Glidden Ralston.
