State Track Results for Thursday, May 18th
Day one of the 2023 state track and field championships from Drake Stadium were officially underway Thursday with plenty of exciting moments.
Carroll’s Olivia Rowedder qualified in the discus event, and she was able to place 18th overall with a best throw of 110-05. Trey Hunter was the lone boy from Carroll High who qualified for the state meet, and he was in the high jump where he finished fifth overall with a best jump of 6-03.00. Shay Sinnard competed in the 100-meter dash towards the end of the day and finished 14th overall with a time of 13.05.
Kuemper’s DJ Vonnahme set a new personal best in the 100-meter dash and qualified for the finals with a fifth-place finish in a time of 11.27. Ben Gerken competed in the long jump event once again at Drake Stadium, and this time around he finished 16th overall with a best jump of 19-08.75. Ellie Sibbel finished outside of the top eight Thursday in the shot-put event, finishing 12th overall with a best throw of 37-00.75. Jacob Greving got back to state track in the 3200-meter run and finished 18th overall with a final time of 10:24.90. DJ Vonnahme was the speedster for the Knights, qualifying in the 200-meter dash and he was able to finish 15th with a time of 23.08. Macy Blum in the long jump finish 22nd overall with a best jump of 15-03.00. The boys’ 4X800 relay team, composed of Tregan Beiter, Koby Lampman, Trevor Rial, and Jacob Greving, finished 21st overall wtih a time of 8:39.37.
The Ar-We-Va Rockets got the day started off by qualifying for the finals in the shuttle hurdle relay. Elizabeth Brunner, Amber Ragaller, Jamie Hausman, and Maggie Ragaller finished in seventh place with a final time of 1:10.41.
South Central Calhoun’s Keira Hammen wrapped up her high school shot put career with a top eight finish Thursday when she placed seventh overall with a best throw of 38-02.75. Iris Melody made it to state in the 3000-meter run and was able to finish 18th overall with a time of 11:26.13.
Coon Rapids Bayard’s boys’ shuttle hurdle relay team, composed of Lucas Obert, Johnny Cortez, Parker Hays, and Cal Heydon finished 19th overall with a time of 1:04.74. Heydon and Lance Clayburg were also in the shot-put event as well. Heydon finished 20th overall with a best throw of 43-03.50 and Clayburg finished 23rd overall with a best throw of 42-04.75.
Audubon’s shuttle hurdle relay team finished 11th overall with a time of 1:11.26 and were unable to qualify for the finals. Michelle Brooks, Mattie Nielsen, Madison Burr, and Madison Steckler composed that relay. Stefi Beisswenger was able to finish in the top 15 in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:29.40. Madison Steckler was able to qualify for the finals in the 200-meter dash with a new school record of 26.19.
IKM-Manning’s Caden Keller finished up the 3200-meter run with a solid ninth place finish with an official time of 9:51.36. The IKM-Manning Girls 4×800 with Julianna Stribe, Emmie Ring, Alikxa McGinn, Taylor Beckendorf finished in 12th in their section and were 23rd overall in 10:41.98. In the boys 4X800 relay, Reed Hinners, Hunter Smith, Ben Ramsey, and Caden Keller were a second off from setting a new school record, finishing fourth overall with a final time of 8:14.96. Madelyn Snyder competed in the 400-meter dash and finished 23rd overall with a time of 1:05.09.
