Carroll at #9 Carlisle Girls

Carroll 61

Carlisle 54

The Carroll Tigers from buzzer-to-buzzer had the lead over #9 Carlisle to pick up a huge win heading into their season finale later this week.

The Tigers gained some momentum recently when they got past Denison Schleswig, and that carried over into this game. The Tigers started off well enough with a 13-11 lead over the Wildcats in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tigers were tied twice but they were able to bounce back and keep their lead alive. Carroll Head Coach Katie Kock says her teams’ defensive efforts paid off tremendously and she was happy with how Katelyn Aden and Madison Tunning both performed defensively. Carroll’s efforts rewarded them with a 30-27 lead at halftime.

The Tiger defense came up clutch in the third quarter as they packed the lane that took away options for Carlisle. The Wildcats couldn’t find a counter to that strategy and ended up with just three points in the third quarter while Carroll had 14. The Tigers extended their lead to 14 points to 44-30. Carlisle tried to mount a late-game comeback in the fourth quarter and they came close, forcing Carroll to come up clutch. Coach Kock says her team was forced to shoot free throws late and they made a lot of them. As a team, the Tigers went 23-38 from the charity stripe, shooting just above 60%. Late free throws combined with a huge third-quarter stop gave the Tigers a big win over a ranked Carlisle team 61-54.

The Tigers are now 9-11 overall on the season and 5-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. They wrap up the regular season on Friday, February 10th when they host ADM.

South Central Calhoun took advantage of East Sac’s cold shooting in the 1st half and did what good teams do, built a 35-14 lead at the half. The Raiders pulled within 14 in the 2nd half but the Titans stretched the lead back out late.

Audubon at IKM-Manning Girls

IKM-Manning 54

Audubon 35

The Audubon Wheelers and IKM-Manning Wolves wrapped up their regular seasons Tuesday night as the Wolves hosted the Wheelers.

IKM-Manning honored their seniors with this final regular season game and their seniors showed out on the floor. Both teams didn’t see much for offense in the first quarter as both committed plenty of turnovers off travel calls. IKM-Manning got the slight nod with Mabel Langel putting up five points to put the Wolves ahead 9-4. Morgan Hanson and Taylor Beckendorf started to have better nights in the second quarter with Hanson draining a three-pointer and adding five points to their lead while Beckendorf hustled all night long and had four points in the quarter. Audubon was trying to drive the IKM-Manning defense away so they could go for three-point shots, but they were unable to get any of them to go their way. The Wolves ended up with 15 points and led 24-13 at halftime.

Audubon kept trying to go for three-point shots in the third quarter and finally were able to put up three of them, two coming from Sienna Albertsen. With that momentum, the Wheelers were able to match the Wolves offensively, only being outscored by one point at 14-13. IKM-Manning kept attacking the basket offensively and Beckendorf again had some great plays and had three points added to her stat line. In the final eight minutes, the Wolves kept the Wheelers at bay leading 38-26. Langel didn’t play for much of the third quarter, but came back in the fourth and popped off with nine points, ending the game with 19 for a team-high. The Wolves let the rest of the clock wind down and were victorious by a final score of 54-35.

The Wolves conclude the regular season with a record of 7-15 overall and 7-8 in the Western Iowa Conference. Audubon finishes with a record of 2-19 overall and 2-12 in the conference. The playoffs are up next for both teams, Audubon will travel to Coon Rapids Bayard on Thursday, February 9th while IKM-Manning will host East Sac on Saturday, February 11th. Jeff Blankman will have both of those games on 93.7 KKRL.
