Carroll at Carlisle

Carroll 58

Carlisle 51

Despite Carlisle dominating from long range, the Carroll Tigers managed to hold on and win a close game late Tuesday night.

Carroll had a back-and-forth few games, getting past Boone and Ballard, but fell to Denison Schleswig and Bondurant Farrar. The Wildcats got their offense going in the first quarter draining five three-pointers to put the Tigers into a tough situation down 17-8. The Wildcats were cooled off in the second quarter when the Tigers showed their talents and put up 21 points. Bryce Berlau, Evan Hammer, and Tanner Gotto all put their combined efforts into two amazing quarters for the Tigers and got Carroll ahead 29-25 at halftime.

Just like the first quarter, the Tigers fell behind quickly as Carlisle bounced back with a 12-4 third quarter. Altogether, the Wildcats were able to put down 13 three-pointers and keep the game interesting throughout. The struggle for Carroll down the stretch was free throws. They’d end up as a team going 10-23 from the charity stripe and 5-16 in the fourth quarter. Despite the free throw woes and being down 37-33, the Tigers put together a great fourth-quarter performance that gave them the lead back. They went 25-14 in scoring and squeaked out the 58-51 win on the road.

Berlau, Hammer, and Gotto all had 14 points that led the Tigers while Trey Hunter led with 12 rebounds. The Tigers improve their record to 10-9 overall and 8-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. They are at home on Friday, February 10th when they host ADM.

Audubon at IKM-Manning

Audubon 62

IKM-Manning 57

The Audubon Wheelers capped off their regular season with one of their biggest wins of the season as they knock off IKM-Manning Tuesday night.

Both teams will see each other again Monday night in the opening round of the playoffs, so this game would determine who has the momentum going into that game. IKM-Manning looked good in the majority of the first half, going on an 8-0 the scoring run before Audubon was able to respond. Edward Miller scored the first 12 points for the Wheelers before any of his teammates were able to score. The Wolves took advantage of that to get ahead 17-9. After Miller hit a three-pointer, the floodgates were open and the Wheelers went on a three-pointer spree. After IKM-Manning had another scoring run going 10-0, the Wheelers got after it and were unstoppable. Miller’s second three-pointer got the Wheelers within six points at 26-20. Colling Bauer got hot from long range and got Audubon ahead 28-27. Ben Ramsey responded on the other end for the Wolves and got them back in the lead at 30-28 with a three-pointer.

Dakota McCrainie came off the bench and hit some big three-pointers, the one he hit in the second quarter got his team ahead again at 31-30. Caden Keller was unable to get a bucket on the other end of the court, giving Audubon enough time to set up a shot. They’d get it down court to Carson Bauer who, with 1.2 second left in the half, nailed the eighth three-pointer for Audubon as a team and got them ahead 34-30 at halftime.

The fireworks weren’t over in this game as both teams jockeyed for the lead the rest of the way. Audubon used their first-half momentum to get ahead by six in the third quarter while IKM-Manning was playing catch up. Carson Bauer kept attacking the basket well and ended up with six points in the quarter while Caden Keller started to come unglued with 10 points in the quarter. Keller even hit a three-point shot to tie the game at 44-44 before Audubon pulled away again to lead 48-44 heading into a wild fourth quarter.

The final eight minutes started off with Audubon keeping course and getting up 50-44, matching their largest lead. Keller and Ben Ramsey teamed up to cut down the Wolves’ lead to 50-50 with four points from Ramsey and two from Keller. IKM-Manning finally got the lead back at 52-50 with a bucket from Keller, but that was spoiled when McCrainie again hit a big-time three-pointer to make 53-52 Audubon. The Wheelers had a bit of a scoring run from there, Carson Bauer hit another massive three-pointer to extend the lead to 56-52 and hit two free throws to extend their lead to 58-52. Cooper Irlemier for IKM-Manning had a chance to make it a two-point game when he stole the in-bounds pass, but he missed the layup. That moment wasn’t in vain as Reed Hinners nailed a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 58-55 and later with 3.7 seconds left, IKM-Manning got another three-pointer from Keller getting them within three points at 60-57. The Wolves had no choice but to foul Collin and Carson Bauer with mere moments left where they went 5-8 from the free-throw line together to give the Wheelers the 62-57 win.

The Wheelers end the regular season with a record of 6-15 overall and 4-14 in the Western Iowa Conference while IKM-Manning will finish with a record of 13-9 overall and 9-7 in the conference. The rematch is set for Monday, February 13th when IKM-Manning hosts Audubon in the first round of the Class 1A, District 14 playoffs. Tyler Brunner will have the broadcast on 93.7 KKRL beginning around 6:45.
