Boyer Valley at Ar-We-Va
Boyer Valley 58
Ar-We-Va 57
The Ar-We-Va Rockets were 11 second away from grabbing a one-point lead over Boyer Valley Monday night, but none of the Rockets got a grip on the basketball to put it up and in the hoop.
In the Rockets’ last meeting with the Bulldogs, Boyer Valley had no problems getting past them with a 62-21 win. This game was much more competitive and physical than the first go around. The Rockets started this game down 4-0 but eventually were able to tie the game at 8-8 and 10-10. Boyer Valley had one last basket in the first quarter that got them ahead 12-10. The game continued to stay close, especially with Boyer Valley in plenty of foul trouble early. They’d quickly cross 10 team fouls in the second quarter, giving Ar-We-Va eight chances at the charity stripe. Despite plenty of opportunities, the Rockets went 8-16 from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs were able to stay ahead thanks to a three-pointer from Landon Chevez-Green back in the first quarter at 25-24 at halftime. Emmett Neumann made is presence known from the beginning and put the Rockets on his back.
Harley Molina for Ar-We-Va got the momentum back to Ar-We-Va’s side with a three-pointer to get them ahead 27-25. Both teams went back and forth with the lead from there, Neumann got the Rockets the lead back at 29-27 with a bucket and tied the game at 33-33 as well. The Rockets were leading by three at 36-33 toward the end of the third quarter until Boyer Valley got another bucket to keep the game within reach at 36-35. In the fourth quarter, Boyer Valley got ahead 40-38 with a bucket from Drew Volkman and later used that momentum to get up 46-41. Ar-We-Va had to battle well from there as they were down 48-43. Molina hit another big-time shot to get the Rockets within a point at 52-51 and later another to keep the Rockets behind at 57-56. Boyer Valley’s Evan Ten Eyck was a crucial part to their big fourth-quarter stop as he went 7-8 from the free-throw line and had some clutch shots that set up a close game. The Rockets fouled Cael Beam with 11 seconds left and Beam hit both free throws to get the Bulldogs ahead 58-57. The Rockets had plenty of time to push the ball down the court, but when it came to making the final layup, they were unable to do so. Almost every player had a hand on the ball in the final moments underneath the hoop, but the Bulldogs were able to poke and prod the ball away for the one-point win 58-57.
Neumann was the essential part of the Rockets staying in this game with a 16-point, 20-rebound double-double along with four blocks. Wade Ragaller and Blayne Smith both ended up with nine points while Harley Molina and Wyatt Ragaller had eight points. Kyelar Cleveland had a big presence underneath with 10 rebounds.
