Boyer Valley at Ar-We-Va Girls

Boyer Valley 63

Ar-We-Va 52

The Ar-We-Va Rockets played a close game down the stretch against Boyer Valley, but they could not stop the Bulldogs from long-range Monday night.

The Rockets were looking to close out the regular season on a strong note as they are back in action at home to open up the playoffs. In the first quarter, Boyer Valley would end up with a 3-0 lead before Jamie Hausman gave the Rockets a ton of momentum. She’d tie the game up at 9-9 and eventually give them the lead at 13-9. Boyer Valley showed they were fully capable of scoring from long range as Lauren Malone made two three-pointers and Mariah Falkena had a three-pointer. Malone continued to make all the three-pointers imaginable in the second quarter. She’d end up with four in total in the quarter and give herself 18 points in the first half, all from three-pointers. Ar-We-Va had some answers with three-pointers from Jamie Hausman and Maggie Ragaller but had a hard time driving to the basket for shots. Boyer Valley ended up grabbing the lead at halftime at 28-23.

In the second half, the threes continued to rain from Boyer Valley as they again were not denied from long range. They made another five three-pointers as a team in the third quarter while Ar-We-Va saw better success driving to the basket. The Rockets had the lead at 36-31 to start and got better looks with Ragaller putting up six points in the quarter. Samantha Hinners was being double-teamed at the blocks, but finally found ways around the defense to get four points up for her team. Boyer Valley’s five three-pointers got them ahead 43-40 entering the fourth quarter. Right at the start of the final quarter, Ragaller fouled out of the game, leaving the Rockets without their leading scorer. That didn’t seem to matter at first as Hinners continued to carry her momentum and kept the team going. She ended up late with a three-point play that got the Rockets within two points at 52-50, but again Boyer Valley kept the three-pointers coming. They drained another three three-pointers, ending the game with 15 three-pointers that carried them to a 63-52 win.

Malone had seven three-pointers for the Bulldogs. For Ar-We-Va Hausman ended up with a team-high 15 points while Ragaller, despite not playing in the fourth quarter, had 13 points, followed by Hinners with 11 points. The Rockets finish up the regular season with a final record of 7-12 overall and 6-10 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They will host their first-round playoff game in Class 1A Region 4 when they take on Woodbury Central on Thursday, February 9th. Tyler Brunner will have the broadcast on Kick 106.7 beginning around 6:50.
