The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders grabbed another conference win Monday night as they competed well against Boyer Valley.
Coon Rapids Bayard was on a nice streak of wins going into this game, winning four of their last five games while Boyer Valley had only won two of their last five. The Crusaders wasted no time in the first quarter grabbing the lead getting ahead 8-3 and eventually leading 14-8 after the quarter. Boyer Valley kept trying to cut down the Crusaders’ lead, but they only made a dent. Coon Rapids Bayard got up by 10 points at 20-10 and later were up by 13 at 32-19 at halftime. Three Crusaders were what made the difference in this game with Breeley Clayburg, Anna Hart, and Malia Clayburg using a combination of consistent offense and dominant defense to pull the Crusaders along.
Coon Rapids Bayard continued to stay ahead as they’d get up 47-26 going into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs attempted a late game comeback and got within 13 points of that comeback. Despite a 21-13 fourth quarter advantage for Boyer Valley, Coon Rapids Bayard had the better overall game winning 60-47. For the Crusaders, Breeley Clayburg ended up with a team high 28 points and tied Katie Dentlinger’s single game record for two-point goals at 13. Hart had a double-double with 12 points and 10 steals along with six rebounds and seven assists, and Malia Clayburg had eight points and 12 rebounds.
The win elevates the Crusaders to 11-6 overall on the season and 8-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They get back to action on Tuesday, January 31st when they travel to take on CAM Anita.
