Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Carroll Girls’ Wrestling Finishes Third at Bill Smith Battle in the Bluffs; Audubon Gets Two Top Four Individual Finishes

Girls Wrestling Results for Monday, January 23rd

Audubon and Carroll at CB Thomas Jefferson

The Audubon and Carroll girls’ wrestling teams competed at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson for the Bill Smith Battle in the Bluffs Tournament where both teams ended up with at least one top three individual finish. Carroll as a team had one of their best finishes of the year, finishing in third place with 90 points, behind second place finisher Missouri Valley and only six points behind eventual tournament winner Sergeant Bluff-Luton who had 96 points. Audubon finished 11th as a team with 16 points.

Carroll had three girls end up with first place wins, being Emma Grossman, Averi Burke, and Julia Kanne. Kanne had the longest day of the three, going 4-0 on the day with all four matches won via fall. Her shortest match was against Kaelynn Hilmes of Sergeant Bluff Luton where Kanne won at the 0:11 mark in the first round. Her longest fall victory came against Daniela Salinas of CBCSD where Kanne still won in the first round at 1:12. Burke was able to go 3-0 on the day with two wins via fall at 3:30 and 2:00 and a 13-11 decision against Brooklyn Lange of Missouri Valley. Grossman also went 3-0 on the day and won her two matches she wrestled via fall at 2:31 and a 4-1 decision. Emma Daniels finished third on the day going 1-2 with a win via sudden victory over Navaeh Hast of Sioux City East.

Jordan Mulford of Audubon had the best finish amongst the Wheelers, finishing third and going 2-2. She picked up wins against Kaelynn Hilmes of CBCSD via fall at 0:17 and Daniela Salinas of CBCSD via a 10-8 decision. Kori Sybesma finished fourth on the day, going 2-2 as well. She picked up a quarterfinal win over Alyssa Butters of Sergeant Bluff Luton via fall near the end of the match at 5:17 and won in the consolation semifinals over Ashley Juarez of Sioux City East via fall at 0:19.

Both girls’ teams are off until Friday, January 27th when they, along with Kuemper, East Sac, and South Central Calhoun, compete for a chance to punch their ticket to state wrestling at the regional meet at Sioux City at the Tyson Events Center.
