The Kuemper Knights were on the road Tuesday night as they took on conference foe Atlantic in a potential big game for the Knights.
Kuemper came off a big 49-20 win over Red Oak while Atlantic was riding a three-game winning streak into this game, defeating Creston, ACGC, and Clarinda. The Trojans got off to a solid lead over the Knights in the first quarter, doubling the score of Kuemper at 14-7 heading into the second quarter. Kuemper had a bit of a resurgence in the second quarter and were able to outscore Atlantic at 12-10, but still trailed by a sizable 24-19 going into halftime. None of the Knights made it double digits as they shared the points among each other. Cate Mayhall and Frannie Glynn both led the team with nine points on the night while Mayhall was picking pockets and led the team with six steals.
The Knights kept their intensity up in the second half as did Atlantic. Kuemper was able to again outscore the Trojans in the third quarter at 13-12, but that did not bring them closer to capturing the lead. They would trail by four at 36-32 to Atlantic heading into the final eight minutes of the game. Kuemper ended up again with double digits in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans big first quarter was enough to keep them ahead in the end as they scored 13 and came away with a 49-42 win.
Other leaders for the Knights include Lauren Boell who came up with eight boards and Karsyn Overmohle and Aubrey Heuton who both had three assists each. Kuemper falls to 2-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Knights are at home on Friday, December 16th as they take on Kingsley Pierson.

Katelyn Aden scored six straight to end the first quarter, pulling Carroll within one at 10-9. Winterset responded in the 2nd quarter, scoring eleven in a row to build a 23-10 lead. Carroll had a chance in the 3rd, down 31-20, they had four possessions with a chance to cut it to single digits but weren’t able to score and Winterset was able to extend the lead to 15. The Tigers hit 8 of 37 shots from the field, hitting 21.6% but did make 10-16 from the free throw line. Their 22 turnovers helped Winterset get more offensive chances.
Shay Sinnard scored on a three to start the game, giving Carroll a 3-0 lead. Winterset answered with 10 straight before Katelyn Aden hit a 3 and made a three-point play to pull the Tigers within 10-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. Carroll trailed 12-10 early in the 2nd quarter but Winterset scored 11 straight before Shayne Aschinger hit a pair of free throws. The Tigers trailed 27-17 at half with Aschinger hitting two more free throws. Winterset started the 2nd half with four straight points to lead 31-17 but Katelyn Aden knocked down her second three of the game, pulling Carroll within 31-20. Carroll had four chances to cut it to single digits but weren’t able to get a shot to fall and Winterset edged back out by 14.
Madison Tunning scored a bucket to cut it to 12, then Shay Sinnard hit a free throw and Olivia Rowedder hit a free throw and Carroll kept it at 12. The Huskies lead bounced back and forth between 12 and 14 points and ended with Madison Tunning scoring the Tigers final points.
Katelyn Aden led the Tigers with 11 points. Shay Sinnard and Shayne Aschinger both scored 5 points. Sinnard and Kennedy Thein led the Tigers with 4 rebounds each. Thein also had a team high 3 steals.
The loss drops the Tigers to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. They head to Ballard on Friday.

The Paton Churdan Rockets gave the Glidden Ralston Wildcats a run for their money in the first half in Tuesday’s matchup before the Wildcats came away with the win.
The Rockets were looking for their first win of the season while the Wildcats were looking to make it three straight wins. Glidden Ralston was able to escape the first quarter with a solid 17-11 start with Paige Klocke leading the way with nine points and Tiela Janssen with eight points. The quarter featured three lead changes and four ties. Emma Stream got the Rockets going with five points start to the game. In the second quarter, Paton Churdan not only conquered their six-point deficit, but were able to grab the lead before halftime. Becca Anderson, who’s been a scoring star as of the last two games, was able to lift off with 12 points in the first half and got the Rockets ahead 29-26. Stream got 11 points in the first half and Klocke led the Wildcats with 17 points.
In the second half, Glidden Ralston gained back the lead in a big way, going 19-5 in the third quarter and leading 45-34 heading into the fourth quarter. The last eight minutes were controlled by Glidden Ralston with the Wildcats putting up 22 points and coming away with the 67-45 win. Klocke ended the game with 30 points and had the team high while Emma Stream led the Rockets with 21 points.
Paton Churdan ends their week of competition with a road game against Woodbine on Friday, December 16th and Glidden Ralston is also on the road as they take on West Harrison on the same day.

The Audubon Wheelers continued to gain confidence on the court as they took on Riverside Tuesday night.
The Wheelers were looking for their first win of the season while Riverside was able to get past Missouri Valley in their latest game. In the first quarter, the Wheelers were able to hang with the Bulldogs and were only down two points at 10-8. Riverside in the second quarter were able to shut down the Wheelers and go on a 12-3 scoring run that got them up 22-11 at halftime. Audrey Jensen continues to be a senior leader on the floor and put up 15 points for a team high. Sienna Albertsen was just behind her with 10 points on the night.
In the second half the Wheelers got out to a solid start, but Riverside did as well. While Audubon had a game high 16 points in the quarter, Riverside put up their own game high with 20 points to keep their lead alive at 42-27. In the final quarter of the game, Riverside was able to cruise with 10 more points added to their lead and eventually victory was theirs by a final score of 52-35.
The Wheelers are back in action on Thursday, December 15th when they host Boyer Valley.

The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders saw some setbacks Tuesday night as they took on one of the top teams in the Rolling Valley Conference in Exira-EHK.
The Crusaders were coming off a 30-point win over West Harrison while the Spartans started off the season 4-0 with wins over IKM-Manning, CAM, Ar-We-Va, and Glidden Ralston. The Spartans showed right away why they are fighting for a top spot in the conference by getting out 26-9 over Coon Rapids Bayard in the first quarter. They’d maintain that momentum into the second quarter with 16 more points added to their total, leading 42-16 at halftime. Despite a down night, Breeley and Malia Clayburg managed to put up double-digit points with Breeley getting 13 and Malia adding 11 points. Both ended up with the same number of rebounds at six.
The Crusaders still couldn’t find the answers against Exira-EHK in the second half, being outscored 13-6 in the third quarter and trailing 55-22. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to win the fourth quarter 12-10, but that wasn’t enough for them to pick up the win as they fell to the Spartans 65-34.
Breeley Clayburg led the team in steals on the night with five and Malia was close behind with four. The loss drops the Crusaders to 3-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They wrap up their week of competition with a road game on Friday, December 16th when they take on Ar-We-Va. Tyler Brunner will broadcast that game on Kick 106.7 beginning around 5:45.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets traveled for a tough conference matchup against Woodbine Tuesday night where the Tigers didn’t give up their early lead at all.
The Rockets came in 0-2 on the season looking for their first win of the season while Woodbine is tied for first in the conference with a 6-0 overall record. The Tigers started off strong in the first quarter, putting up 23 points and keeping Ar-We-va to two points. The Rockets had a better second quarter putting up 10 points, but Woodbine kept the points coming and had a 42-12 lead at halftime.
Ar-We-Va in the third quarter kept the Tigers at bay for the most part as they were only outscored by two points at 11-9, but still trailed by a chunk at 53-21 going into the final eight minutes of the contest. Woodbine wrapped up their high scoring affair with 18 points in the fourth quarter to come away with a 71-26 win.
Maggie Ragaller and Delaney Schurke shared the spotlight for Ar-We-Va, leading the team with eight points each. The Rockets fall to 0-3 overall on the season and in the Rolling Valley Conference. Game two of their busy week is on Thursday, December 15th when they travel to take on Westwood.
