For a third straight game the Kuemper girls fell behind early, struggling on the offensive end. They rallied for the third straight game, giving themselves a chance to win, tying the game late in the 3rd quarter. For a second straight game the rally fell short as Denison Schleswig pulled away in the 4th quarter to drop the Knights to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Knights shot 30.6% from the field and only 23.5% from beyond the arc, hitting 4 of 17 shots from three. Aubrey Heuton had three of the Kuemper three’s with Catherine Mayhall hitting one late in the game.

Denison Schleswig scored the first-five points of the game, before Frannie Glynn hit a free throw to get the Knights on the board. Aubrey Heuton hit the first of her three’s, pulling Kuemper within 7-4. A Lauren Boell bucket kept Kuemper within three late in the 1st quarter and it looked like Kuemper gained momentum at the buzzer, when Catherine Mayhall hit a three that would have made it 12-9 but it came just after the horn and Kuemper was down 12-6 heading to the 2nd quarter. The Monarchs built on the lead early in the 2nd quarter, stretching the lead to 25-13. Aubrey Heuton hit a three to start the Kuemper rally, followed by a Catherine Mayhall bucket and another Heuton three. Lauren Boell hit a free throw and Kuemper closed out the half with a 9-1, trailing 26-22.

The Monarchs scored the first-four points of the 3rd quarter before Catherine Mayhall hit a shot at the rim and Frannie Glynn scored inside and Kuemper pulled within 30-26. Denison Schleswig extended the lead to 33-28 before Mayhall hit a pair of free throws and Elsa Tiefenthaler scored a bucket and hit the free throw to tie the game at 33. Denison Schleswig scored to end the quarter and led 35-33. That would be as close as the Knights would get as the Monarchs scored five points in a row, going up 40-33. The lead grew to 14 before Mayhall hit a three to end the game.

The Knights were led by Catherine Mayhall with 12 points and Aubrey Heuton who scored 9 points. Lauren Boell finished with 8 points and Frannie Glynn had 7 points and 8 rebounds. Heuton and Boell each had 3 steals.
