Kuemper vs Grand View Christian at Saydel

The Kuemper Knights started off slow in the first half but started to pick up the pace in the second half against Grand View Christian Thursday night in Saydel.

The Knights were without some of their main starters against the Thunder, but they got some of their bench players some nice playing time. Grand View Christan was able to put up plenty of buckets early and led 16-6 entering the second quarter. Kuemper started to come alive a bit with a late second quarter push led by Kaylie Simons who put up nine points off the bench. After trailing by as much as 15 midway through the quarter, Kuemper went into the locker room for halftime down by eight at 32-24.

Simons showed she could see more time on the floor for the Knights as she had 14 points total in the game. Aubrey Heuton was another star on the floor as she put up 14 points and four rebounds. The start of the second half was a low scoring affair for both teams. Grand View Christian had the slight edge outscoring the Knights 9-8 and keeping their lead at 40-33. Speaking of Heuton, she nailed two threes for the Knights to keep them within seven points of the Thunder’s lead. The fourth quarter is where Kuemper started to inch closer and closer to a comeback. With six minutes left, the Knights were down 44-38 and managed to stay in the game late. Despite some last-minute heroics, the Knights would eventually fall 49-44.
