Girls Basketball Results for Thursday, December 1st
Kuemper vs Grand View Christian at Saydel
The Kuemper Knights started off slow in the first half but started to pick up the pace in the second half against Grand View Christian Thursday night in Saydel.
The Knights were without some of their main starters against the Thunder, but they got some of their bench players some nice playing time. Grand View Christan was able to put up plenty of buckets early and led 16-6 entering the second quarter. Kuemper started to come alive a bit with a late second quarter push led by Kaylie Simons who put up nine points off the bench. After trailing by as much as 15 midway through the quarter, Kuemper went into the locker room for halftime down by eight at 32-24.
Simons showed she could see more time on the floor for the Knights as she had 14 points total in the game. Aubrey Heuton was another star on the floor as she put up 14 points and four rebounds. The start of the second half was a low scoring affair for both teams. Grand View Christian had the slight edge outscoring the Knights 9-8 and keeping their lead at 40-33. Speaking of Heuton, she nailed two threes for the Knights to keep them within seven points of the Thunder’s lead. The fourth quarter is where Kuemper started to inch closer and closer to a comeback. With six minutes left, the Knights were down 44-38 and managed to stay in the game late. Despite some last-minute heroics, the Knights would eventually fall 49-44.
Cate Mayhall was another solid player on the floor for the Knights, putting up eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Kuemper rounds out their week of competition with a road game on Saturday, December 3rd when they take on Denison Schleswig.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats went score for score against the West Central Valley Wildcats Thursday night where Glidden Ralston came up one point shy of victory in their season opener.
In the first half Glidden Ralston held on to a close advantage, winning the first quarter 7-5 and staying ahead by 22-19 at halftime. Tiela Janssen in this game showed she can potentially have a solid season by putting up 23 points on the floor. Paige Klocke was a solid support player underneath the basket with 10 rebounds while putting up six points. West Central Valley was able to capture the lead in the third quarter by staying ahead by three points at 32-29. Tiela Janssen with 1:25 in the fourth quarter made it a one-point game with a three pointer down 41-40. Glidden Ralston fouled West Central Valley and rebounded the ball and tried to win the game in the final 11 seconds. Ashtyn Klocke got the ball to Paige Klocke who made a move on the left block, but the ball rimmed out as the buzzer sounded giving West Central Valley the 41-40 win.
Glidden Ralston will start off the 2022-2023 season with an 0-1 record. The Wildcats will be at home once again on Friday, December 2nd when they take on Rolling Valley Conference foe Exira-EHK.

The Audubon Wheelers made up their snowed-out game from Tuesday on Thursday as they took on Missouri Valley in a tough loss.
The Wheelers came off their season opener where they lost 43-22 against Coon Rapids Bayard Monday night and were looking for some redemption against the Lady Reds. The first quarter was anticlimactic with both teams only putting up two points each. The second quarter pace was much better with both teams getting double digit points. Audubon would hold on to a three-point lead at 17-14 at halftime. Audrey Jensen and Rylee Brittan both had solid nights on the floor putting up 12 and 11 points each.
Missouri Valley started to claw back in the third quarter by tying the ball game at 28 points each, leading to an entertaining fourth quarter. The Lady Reds in the fourth quarter flipped a switch and were able to hang well with the Wheelers, putting up 15 points and coming away victorious with a final score of 43-37.
The Wheelers drop to 0-2 overall on the season and 0-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. They are back on the court on Friday, December 2nd when they travel to take on Tri-Center.

IKM-Manning at Panorama

The IKM-Manning Wolves got their 2022-2023 season underway Thursday night when they traveled to take on Panorama.
Panorama got off to a solid start in the first quarter, getting ahead of the Wolves by a score of 14-6 entering the second quarter. The Panthers upped their pace in the second quarter, putting up 18 points and taking a 32-14 lead into halftime. Senior Mabel Langel was the leader of this IKM-Manning team offensively, putting up 11 points total. The Wolves got the second half off to a better start, putting up three less points than Panorama, but still trailing 40-19. The final quarter was another big scoring effort by the Panthers with another 18 points added. Panorama with two big quarters gave them the 58-27 win.
Anna Stangl showed she could blossom into a nice player this season for IKM-Manning as the Freshman put up six points. IKM-Manning will close out their week of competition by taking on Riverside at home on Friday, December 2nd.
