An important road game for the Carroll Tigers ended in defeat as they took on Sioux Center to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.

The Tigers needed to win their final two games of the season to lock up a playoff spot, and it started by taking on a tough and physical Warriors’ team. Both teams were implementing a run first offense and had to get through each other’s defensive line and backfield. Sioux Center started with the football in the first quarter and were forced to punt. Carroll’s chances to run the ball were unsuccessful as well as were forced to punt. Sioux Center brought a lot of size across their entire team and forced the Tigers to find new ways to block bigger guys. The Warriors split-back offense got them into the endzone off a six-play offensive drive. Connor Kamerman found his way to the house for six points from seven yards out to get the Warriors up 6-0. The battle in the trenches was apparent in the second quarter with both teams not seeing much productivity offensively. Sioux Center turned over the football on downs three times and Carroll was intercepted and had to punt the ball three times. The Warriors were able to strike again when Seth Anderson tumbled into the end zone from three yards out to give Sioux Center a 12-0 lead going into halftime.

Besides the offensive struggles, the Tigers were playing well defensively. Their d-line clogged up the inside gaps and their linebackers were crushing down and filling any holes. Payton Wardell was a playmaker for the Tigers defensively, coming away with seven total tackles and four solo tackles. Carroll’s struggles offensively looked to turn around in the second half. They stuck with a wishbone formation for a majority of their 12-play drive to start the half and found success with leading blockers in the A and B gaps. Despite getting down to the Sioux Center 36-yard line, the drive failed, and the Tigers were forced to turn over the football. The Warriors went three and out and punted the ball away to give Carroll another chance. The Tigers this time got down to the Warriors’ five-yard line and again turned over the football on downs. Sioux Center used their defensive momentum to carry them to a strong fourth quarter performance. Kamerman got himself two more touchdowns runs, from 71 and 20 yards out to carry the Warriors past the Tigers 25-0.

Carroll’s loss drops them to 4-4 overall on the season and 1-3 in the district. The Tigers will have their final home game of the season as they play host to Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
