Paton Churdan continues to improve and nearly picked up their first win of the season. They served the ball very well and swung well at the net all night. The Rockets played well in set 1, falling late 25-23, but battled back to take set 2 by 5 points to pull tie the match at 1 set apiece. After struggling in set 3 they bounced back to win set 4, tying the match at 2 sets apiece. The very young group took some more big steps forward though they lost set 5.

The Rockets had three girls finish in double figures in kills with Paige Teeples and Becca Anderson each having 14 kills while Mia Russell added 13 kills. Anderson was terrific all-around with 17 digs and 5 aces.

The loss drops Paton Churdan to 0-8 overall. They head to Boyer Valley on Tuesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard took a huge step forward, playing their best match of the year. They battled through a strange night at home that saw the match get delayed in set 2 when the fire alarm went off. Both teams and all fans were evacuated outside until the building was deemed safe by officials. The Crusaders fell in 3 sets but had a chance late to win sets 1 and 3.

The 1st set was tied eight times and the lead changed 4 times. The Crusaders took their first lead at 7-6 and got up by as many as 2 before the Cougars rallied back and took a 13-12 lead. Coon Rapids Bayard fell down 16-12 but Lydia Hofbauer stopped the Cougars run. A pair of Gracy Johnson kills pulled the Crusaders within 18-17 and 19-18 before Lacie Davis tied the set at 19. Malia Clayburg who played well in the middle put the Crusaders up 20-19 but that would be their last lead. CAM tied the set at 20, going ahead 21-20 before pulling away down the stretch to win 25-20.

Gracy Johnson started set 2 with a pair of nice serves, putting the Crusaders up 2-0. CAM rallied back quickly and led 3-2 but Coon Rapids Bayard rebounded to lead 4-3. They extended the lead to 6-3. There were 7 ties in the 2nd set and CAM tied it at 6 and then again at 7. Anna Hart put Coon Rapids Bayard up by 2 with a kill, making it 9-7. CAM responded with 3 straight and led 10-9. The Crusaders would not lead again. They trailed 16-13 when the fire alarm sounded and the gym was cleared outside for around 10-15 minutes. The Crusaders struggled to regain their rhythm once the match restarted and scored just 2 more points, falling 25-15.

Coon Rapids Bayard never led in set 3 but kept the set close with strong play up front from Malia Clayburg and Anna Hart. Lydia Hofbauer pulled the Crusaders within 4 at 17-13 with a kill. The Cougars maintained a lead around 4-5 most of the rest of the set but Malia Clayburg cut it to 23-21 with a kill. CAM ended the match, winning the final set 25-21.

Malia Clayburg had a team high 5 kills while Anna Hart had 3 kills. Gracy Johnson dished out 10 assists to go with 12 digs. Anna Hart added 12 digs and passed well. Malia Clayburg did a nice job reading the hitter, finishing with 5 blocks. Laci Davis dove all over the floor, picking up plenty of new bruises, finishing with a team high 15 digs. Lydia Hofbauer added 9 digs. Aubrey Hofbauer had 2 aces and Shelbi Wiskus added 3 blocks.

The Crusaders fell to 3-11 overall and 1-1 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They head to West Harrison on Thursday.

Glidden Ralston at Madrid (Quad)

Glidden Ralston was a perfect 6-0 in sets as they competed in a quad against Madrid, Collins Maxwell, and Baxter Monday night. 

In game one, the Wildcats matched up with Madrid and played well defensively. Glidden Ralston was able to gain the upper hand late against in set one the Tigers and grabbed a 25-20 set win. Tiela Janssen and Ashlynn Tigges were two big reasons the Wildcats were able to stay in this game with Tigges putting up 11 digs and Janssen leading the team with 28 digs. Madrid held on well in the second set as well putting up another hard fought battle. Glidden Ralston was able to hold on once again for the 25-21 victory and took the 2-0 match win. Offensively for the Wildcats, Vanessa Koehler led the team with eight kills and two blocks while Summer Toms was right behind her with seven kills in this game.

Game two for the Wildcats showed how great their offense can be as they took on Collins Maxwell.

Glidden Ralston was able to easily take the first set by a score of 25-7 and did just as well in the second set, winning 25-8. Their big victory was thanks to another strong performance from Vanessa Koehler who, in this game, put up another team high of 16 kills. She had more support offensively with Lauren Hulsing recording 13 kills and Paige Klocke doing well at the serving line with eight aces. The Wildcats as a team had 14 aces against the Spartans. Tielan Janssen continued to do well defensively by leading the team with 12 digs.

Glidden Ralston vs Baxter

In the last game for the Wildcats, they were matched up with Baxter where they met some resistance, but still got the job done. 

Baxter was one of the toughest opponents Glidden Ralston had to face in this quad. The Bolts have two girls who came in with 30 plus kills, Mandee Selover with 34 and Abbie Meyer with 32. The Bolts offense gave the Wildcats a good challenge defensively and kept the kills for Glidden Ralston low. Set one was still heavily in favor of Glidden Ralston where they won 25-19. Tiela Janssen continued to show up defensively, putting up 18 digs in this game. Set two was fairly close with the Bolts offense putting up a fight, but the Wildcats still came away with the set win with a score of 25-19 and coming away with the match win. 

Baxter saw some gaps in their serve receiving as Glidden Ralston came away with 15 total aces with Lauren Hulsing leading the way with six. Vanessa Koehler was able to be a big support in the front row, putting up three solo blocks against the Bolts. The three wins elevate the Wildcats to 6-3 overall on the season. They will be on the road Tuesday, September 13th when they take on Woodbine.
