South Central Calhoun was in a shootout into the 2nd half but struggled to stop the E-Hawks run game and
ended up falling behind after an injury slowed down their own offense. The Titans scored 21 points in the 1st half but struggled to stop Emmetsburg and trailed 35-21 at the break. The E-Hawks scored at least 14 points in all four quarters in the game. South Central Calhoun added a touchdown in the 3rd quarter but lost starting quarterback Gavin Batta in the 3rd quarter and the offense couldn’t match the E-Hawks the rest of the game. Emmetsburg pulled away in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Titans 14-0.
The Titans threw the ball for 314 yards with 4 touchdown passes, but were also intercepted 3 times. The E-Hawks turned those extra chances into points with one interception returned 82 yards for a touchdown by Cade Shirk. The E-Hawks churned out 426 yards on the ground, averaging 8.9 yards per carry, scoring 7 rushing touchdowns. Cade Shirk led them with 209 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. The Titans struggled to establish a ground game for a third straight game, running for 79 yards on 2.9 yards per carry.
Gavin Batta finished 12-20 for 223 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Brock Nattress, Chace Roeder and Noah Hendricks combined to go 2-8 for 86 yards with Nattress throwing an 80-yard touchdown. Batta led the rushing attack with 39 yards on 6 carries. Dominik Kistler ran for 30 yards on 7 carries. The Titans lost the turnover battled 4-1 while picking up 13 first downs to 10 for Emmetsburg. Ryan Brennan returned a kick for a touchdown for Emmetsburg.
Bryan Steig and Naylan Gulbranson each had 5.5 tackles for the Titans, Chance Roeder and Zach Trott each finished with 4.5.
The Titans fall to 1-2 on the season and will open district play Friday at home against Manson NW Webster.
