The Merchants lead over Des Moines for the final playoff berth with 2 games left for Carroll and 1 game left for Des Moines is down to .001 percent. Carroll fell 9-8, allowing a run in the bottom of the 10th inning, after they had rallied to tie the game with a 5-run 7th inning. Nevada built a lead with a 4-run 1st inning, extending it to 8-3 with 4 more runs in the 5th inning. Carroll responded with 5-runs in the 7th, tying the game at 8.
Carroll struck first with a run in the 1st inning. Michael Alt doubled to left field and moved to 3rd base on a sac bunt. Jordan Matthewson grounded out to 2nd base, but scored Alt. Nevada’s bats were hot early, picking up 5 hits in the bottom half of the 1st, helping them score 4-runs. Carroll responded in the 2nd inning, Bennett Freiter singled to center field. Hunter Reid hit a 2-run home run, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Neither team was able to score the next few innings, though the Merchants loaded the bases in the 3rd. The Griffons hit their second home run of the game, a 3-run shot helped them score 4-runs in the bottom of the 5th. They extended their lead to 8-3.

Michael Alt reached on an error, both scored on a single to center by Danny Schweitzer, with an error in center allowing Alt to score and Schweitzer to move to 2nd base. Garrett Freeman doubled to center field, scoring Schweitzer, Bennett Freiter singled to right-center, scoring Freeman. Freiter scored later in the inning on a wild pitch, tying the game at 8. The game remained tied into the bottom of the 10th inning. Nevada got a leadoff single by M Eastman, who moved to 2nd on a error on the Merchants, then to 3rd on a wild pitch. Eastman scored the game ending run on a single to center field.
Bennett Freiter led the Merchants with 3 hits and scored twice. Hunter Reid had a 2-run home run. Michael Alt doubled, one of his 2 hits and scored twice. Garrett Freeman had a double, drove in a run and scored once. Alex Johnson went all 9 1/3 innings in taking the loss. He allowed 14 hits and 9 earned runs with 6 strikeouts.
The loss drops the Merchants to 19-22. Des Moines Peak record sits at 18-21. Carroll travels to St Joseph on Friday, then returns home Saturday to host Clarinda. The Peak are at St Joseph on Saturday.
