Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper Rallies for Win Over Carroll on Friday

The Kuemper Knights rallied for their 17th win of the season, as Carroll had a game slip through their fingertips late, leading 2-1 in the bottom of the  6th with 2 outs. Both team, pitched well and missed some opportunities to score. Kuemper out hit Carroll 5-3. The Knights left 8 on base and Carroll left 3 on base. Kuemper struck first with a run in the 4th inning, but Carroll came right back, scoring 2 in the 5th inning to lead 2-1. Cooper Pottebaum made a great defensive play in the top of the 4th, then turned the momentum of the game completely around in the 6th. The Knights would score 4-runs to pick up the win.

Kuemper loaded the bases in the 1st with 1 out but Evan Loew was able to pitch himself out of trouble, inducing a pair of infield pop outs to end the inning. Ryan North singled and moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. Sterling Rodman sent a fly ball to right field. Cooper Pottebaum settled under the ball and North broke for 3rd on the catch. Pottebaum threw a strike to 3rd to end the inning. Pottebaum led off the bottom of the 4th with a single, and moved to 2nd base on an error. He stole 3rd base and scored on a sac fly by Trevor Rial. Carroll responded in the 5th inning. Stone Sibenaller walked and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Chase Ragaller tripled to left field, scoring Sibenaller. Ragaller scored on a ground out by Nolan Mohr and Carroll led 2-1. The 6th inning started well for Carroll, Evan Loew got a fly out a walk and then a pop up in the infield for the 2nd out. John Boes singled and an error allowed Kuemper to have runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cooper Pottebaum, who had walked with 1 out, stole home to tie the game at 2 and another Tiger error moved Boes to 3rd base. Max Irlmeier doubled, driving in Boes, then scored on a single by Carter Putney, which came after Koby Lampman walked and Logan Sibenaller was hit-by-pitch. The Knights scored 4 times to lead 5-2, heading to the 7th. Logan Sibenaller had taken over for Cal Wanninger on the mound in the 5th inning got the Tigers 1,2,3 to end the ball game.

Carter Putney had a pair of hits to lead the Knights and drove in a pair of runs. Max Irlmeier doubled and drove in a run. Logan Sibenaller got the win, going 3 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 2. Cooper Pottebaum scored twice and stole  a  pair of bases.

Evan Loew, Ryan North and Ethan Loew all singled for Carroll. Chase Ragaller tripled, driving in a run and scored a run. Evan Loew took the loss but went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts.

The Knights move to 17-16 and will play the winner of Saturday game between West Monona and Ridge View. Carroll falls to 1-25 and will host Winterset on Tuesday.
