Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Softball Playoffs Began For 5 Area Teams on Friday

Softball Playoffs Results Friday, July 1st 

Class 1A Region 2

West Harrison At Audubon

Audubon cruised into a matchup at Woodbine on Wednesday next week, winning their opening round game in 3 innings. The Wheelers broke the game open with 6-runs in the 2nd inning, then added 6 more in the 3rd to end the game. They scored 12-runs on 6 hits, which included three triples. They also walked eight times. Kali Irlmeier was dominant in the circle, just a walk shy of having 3 perfect innings.

The Wheelers scored three of their first four runs on wild pitches or passed ball, then got a single from Kalie Irlmeier to score Jordan Porsch to make it 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Michelle Brooks then tripled to score Kylee Hartl and Irlmeier to make it 6-0. Mattie Nielsen tripled to score Jordan Mulford in the 3rd inning and the Wheelers were off and running again. Hannah Thygesen drove in Nielsen, making it 8-0. Kylee Hartl extended it to 10-0 with a triple that scored Jordan Porsch and Karlyn Hartl. A single by Victoria Asmus drove in Kylee Hartl and Addie Hocker to end the game.

Kylee Hartl, Michelle Brooks and Mattie Nielsen all tripled as the Wheelers had six girls with a hit. Hartl had 2 RBI and scored twice, Brooks added 2 RBI and Nielsen had an RBI and scored a run. Victoria Asmus had 2 RBI. Jordan Porsch, Karly Hartl and Jordan Mulford all scored twice. Kali Irlmeier got the win in the circle, striking out 7 with no hits allowed in 3 innings.

The Wheelers improve to 12-13 on the season and will face Woodbine at Woodbine on Wednesday.

Boyer Valley At Glidden Ralston

Glidden Ralston battled back from down 5-0 after the 3rd inning to tie the game, but fell in extra innings. Vanessa Koehler had a 2-run home run in the 6th to tie the game, capping a 3-run 6th inning. Boyer Valley, which scored 2-runs in the 1st inning, added 3 more in the 3rd, scored their final run in the top of the 8th. Glidden Ralston began their rally with a pair of runs in the 4th weren’t able to push the tying run in the bottom  half of the 8th.

Tiela Janssen was outstanding at the plate, going 4-4 with a double. Vanessa Koehler had a 2-run home run and pitched well, going 8 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 8. The Wildcats out hit Boyer Valley 11 to 7. The Bulldogs took advantage of 3 unearned runs to win the game. Brenna Bowman, drove in a pair of runs, Brileigh Bock had a pair of hits and Summer Toms scored a pair of runs.

The Wildcats wrap up the season 9-11.

The battle of the offenses went down Friday as the Ar-We-Va Rockets matched up with the Storm Lake St Mary’s Panthers in the opening round of the Class 1A Region 2 bracket.

The Panthers got their offense off to an explosive start with 10 runs scored in the first inning alone. They were able to load up the bases off five walks and a three RBI double from Maddie Fiorendino. Ar-We-Va was able to get two runs across home plate when Maggie Ragaller and Kora Obrecht got home, cutting down the Panthers lead to 10-2. Emmetsburg kept their bats alive after a scoreless inning, bringing home two runners off an error from the Rockets, leading 12-2.

The Rockets had their biggest inning of the game in the third inning when they scored a massive 10 runs to tie up the ball game at 12-12. Delaney Schurke had the big inning with two RBIs and two runs scored off two singles. Sophie Jackson knocked an RBI single and a run scored and the Rockets too were walked a lot, eight times in total in the third inning. Both teams were unable to add runs in the fourth, but the Panthers got their offense back on track in the fifth inning with three runs scored. Avery Smith knocked a two RBI triple and later scored to give Storm Lake St Mary’s a 15-12 lead. They extended their lead further with five runs scored in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to lead it 22-12. Ar-We-Va’s final chance in the bottom of the seventh started with Maggie Ragaller and Kora Obrecht scoring once again to cut down the Panthers lead to 22-14. After loading up the bases with one out, the Panthers got another strikeout and one final 1-2 putout to win it 22-14 and advance to the next round of the regional bracket.

Some highlights from this game include Maggie Ragaller going 3-5 with three runs scored and a double, and Delaney Schurke going 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Rockets season comes to an end with a final record of 4-14.

IKM-Manning kept up early in a high scoring affair but Lawton Bronson was able to take advantage of 13 Wolves errors to pull away late, using an 8-run 7th inning to put the game out of reach. The Wolves had six girls with at least one hit and finished the game with 9 hits. IKM-Manning scored 4-runs in both the 1st and 2nd inning, then added a run in the 3rd to trail 12-9 after 3 innings. They didn’t score again until the 6th, and during that time Lawton Bronson added 6-runs to take a 17-9 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th.

Taylor Beckendorf finished with a team high 3 hits for IKM-Manning, doubling, driving in a run and scoring twice. Jessica Christensen had a base hit and scored 3 times. Carlee Neil drove in a pair of runs. Alikxa McGinn drove in 3 runs and scored twice and Lauren Greving scored twice on 2 hits.

The Wolves end the season at 2-17.

The South Central Calhoun Titans were able to hang with Emmetsburg offensively, but saw some struggles defensively in Friday’s Class 2A Region 5 opening round.

The Titans opened up the contest on offense and they quickly got out to an early 2-0 lead. Emma Anderson hit a deep double and was later scored by Gracie Hungate’s RBI single. Olivia Toms got on base off a single and was brought home off Keira Hammen’s RBI single to left field. The E-Hawks were able to cut that lead in half with a run scored by Emma Auten. South Central Calhoun kept their bats alive with another two runs scored to extend their lead to 4-1. Anderson was able to get her first homerun of her season as she scored Addisyn Korleski and herself for two RBIs.

Emmetsburg started to push back in the second inning as they tied up the game with three runs scored. Maddy Anderson would hit an RBI single and the Titans committed an error that led to two runs scored. The Titans got a runner to second but left her stranded in the third while the E-Hawk grabbed the lead with three runs scored. Two of those runs came off of sacrifice hits from Kourtney Kogel and Laney Montag. The Titans were able to respond in the fourth inning and tied the game at 6-6. Evelyn Kramer was able to bat in one run and Korleski and Brenna McAlister both scored.

The Emmetsburg offense couldn’t be slowed down as they got a run in every single inning they batted in. They scored four more in the bottom of the fourth to lead again at 11-6, and added two more in the fifth to lead 13-7. Keira Hammen was able to smack a solo homerun shot in the fifth inning. After a scoreless sixth inning, South Central Calhoun had one more opportunity to tie the game or lead again. Mady Smidt was able to get a single and got to second, but after two strikeouts and a 4-3 putout, the E-Hawks walked away victorious by a final score of 13-7.

Hammen was able to go 4-4 on the night with a home run and two RBIs while Emma Anderson got a two-run home run along with going 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Titans season will come to an end with a final record of 2-14.
